To prefer getting the train to a taxi when travelling alone at night?

I just feel like I have more control and I don't want to be alone in a car with a stranger. Even though it's highly unlikely I'm at risk from him, it all feels a bit uncomfortable.

I'm going to a party next weekend. It's a 10 minute walk to the station and a 5 min train journey. Venue is just outside outside station. The last train home works out perfectly re timings and then I'd have the 10 min walk home.

This seems like a good option to me. My alternative is to call a cab/hope I can get one at the rank or use Uber (which isn't licenced here). There just seems too many uncertainties to me. You're never sure the thing will turn up and I don't like taxis anyway.

I know friends will be horrified at the idea of me travelling home alone on public transport though. I'm a widow in her 50s and it's not unusual for friends to insist their DH sees me home, so I need a preemptive strike. I really am much more comfortable getting myself home.

Oh, so unreasonable it's off the scale or so not unreasonable it doesn't warrant comment? 😆

Personally I find public transport more risky and full of more weirdos 🤷‍♀️

I think it sounds fine

Sounds fine; I often get the train late at night and prefer it to an uber which often cancels at short notice. Also I get car sick and some drivers just drive like maniacs

I wouldn't fancy being on a train late at night alone to be honest x
