Moving to Bury

Help! We are considering moving from the Midlands to Bury (Whitefield/Radcliffe are in the running). We want a quieter life from our current environment and I know every area has good and bad but generally what is Bury like? We are a South Asian family who are happy to integrate but really need to avoid areas where we will be made to feel unwelcome. Any advice x

I live in Prestwich and it’s lovely. Whitefield is nice too, Radcliffe not so much, but it is cheaper. We’ve got great transport links (tram to city centre, close to motorway network etc), lots of green space. We’ve been here 10 years now and are very happy.

Radcliffe is pretty grim. Whitefield is quite nice but less of a community feel than Prestwich, in my opinion.
Bits of Bury itself can be nice, but if you're not white you might want to be careful around some of the villages, they can be unwelcoming.

I agree re the community feel, it’s definitely there in Whitefield, whereas friends who live in Whitefield don’t feel it.

I mean it’s definitely there in Prestwich

I used to live in Bury (and now live in the Midlands hehe) and know Whitefield and Radcliffe pretty well as well.

Theres nice areas of Bury itself, and both Whitefield and Radcliffe though Radcliffe is probably the scruffiest/cheapest.

Go and visit in the evenings/at night and drive through various areas you're interested in if you possibly can. That will give you a better idea of how nice an area actually is!
