The government actually IS doing a consultation on bringing back imperial measurements!

I thought it was a joke.
AIBU to think this is a complete load of bollocks waste of money?

The questions don't even give you the option of saying just keep metric.
Example question -
For Consumers,

a) If you had a choice, would you want to purchase items:

(i) in imperial units?

(ii) in imperial units alongside a metric equivalent?

Metric all the way I'm afraid and we should also ditch any remnants of imperial. The current mix and match is an abomination and totally ridiculous.

Sciurus83 · 04/06/2022 22:16

Ridiculous. I'm not re-learning some archaic system that offers zero benefit. Neither will anyone younger than me. It's just another dead cat on the table for BoJo to try and deflect attention from his utterly appalling leadership and behaviour.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 04/06/2022 22:19

I understand imperial much better than metric. I don't mind if metric and imperial are listed. I'm 37 so apparently learned metric!

Spudina · 04/06/2022 22:22

Waste of time and money. He’s a dead duck just doing desperate ransom, populist nonsense to cling on to power.

MissDollyMix · 04/06/2022 22:22

I DO NOT want to return to imperial and wish we would finally go 100% metric.

MissyB1 · 04/06/2022 22:22

It’s just embarrassing. This Government constantly make us a laughing stock.

How long will we keep letting them drag us down.

dangerrabbit · 04/06/2022 22:24

Yay! Sunny uplands!✨

FruitToast · 04/06/2022 22:28

Absolute waste of money. Also I wasn't actually taught imperial measurements at school because we were being pro-metric at the time. I wouldn't have a clue when buying in imperial besides milk, but even then it's just big, medium, small and 'those little ones to take to work'. Why can't we just stick with the metric system which actually makes sense rather than hark back to an antiquated system of random measurements.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 04/06/2022 22:39

I’m 38. I was taught metric. So the youngest people who were taught imperial must be 40+. It makes zero sense to go back to a system none of our nearest neighbours use with 40yrs worth of the population having no clue and having to learn it alongside what we know and use.

youkiddingme · 04/06/2022 22:46

Who wants this? I'm in my 60s, hubby is nearly 70 - we don't.

RaininSummer · 04/06/2022 22:47

Somebody should tell hairdressers that inches are not used any more. Daft trying to resurrect it though even if a lot of people still don't understand the metric system. I used to teach maths to apprentices and hardly any at 16 years old understood it which doesn't say much about their education up to that point.

Kendodd · 04/06/2022 22:47

I'm going to complain about the absence of a just use metric option. -

This consultation has been carried out in accordance with the Government’s Consultation Principles.
If you have any complaints about the consultation process (as opposed to comments about the issues which are the subject of the consultation) please address them to:

Waste of time and money. I’m over 40 and have always used both

Weird rules:
-metres for distance but feet for height I DO NOT GET YARDS
-stones for human weight but kg for objects and pets
-use both miles and km depending on mood

eddiemairswife · 04/06/2022 22:49

I learnt imperial and still think in imperial, but metric is here to stay and it is idiotic to bring it back. It is probably good for my ageing brain to mentally work out the conversion from one to the other.

LauderSyme · 04/06/2022 22:50

YANBU

Total bollocks and adds ludicrously wasteful costs to already struggling businesses. The only advantage of this imperial measurement crap is that it shows just how naked the Brexit emperor is.

RobynNora · 04/06/2022 22:53

It’s a real issue for Boris and needs sorting. Carrie was too young to be taught imperial at school and Boris is too old to get his head around metric. Makes it a nightmare buying milk

LauderSyme · 04/06/2022 22:53

Would add costs, I should say, were imperial to be brought back and have to be printed on all packaging etc.

I bet Nigel Farage does.

Just another attempt to distract the public from how shit and borderline criminal Arsehole Johnson is.

Lavapalaver · 04/06/2022 22:55

probably something to do with some American food trade deal

megletthesecond · 04/06/2022 22:58

Which one of their Eton / Oxbridge mates owns the consultant firm?

NancyDrooo · 04/06/2022 22:58

Calm down people. They’re just wanting to give a choice, none of it is going to mandatory. We were not happy when the EU banned us from using imperial measures, now people are not happy we might revert and allow either or both.

I’ll still buy a pint of beer, thanks. I’m 5’5”. My baby was weighed in lbs and oz. No idea what I weigh in kg. Our road signs are in miles, not kilometres. It’s surely not beyond us to use whichever suits.

Kendodd · 04/06/2022 22:53

Nigel Farage is younger than Jarvis Cocker

Awww aren't you Oh, so very British?

Cute.

Until Boris can explain the rule of dozens then he can crawl back under his rock.
