Turning to the wise people of mumsnet in the hope that someone can help me find this book before I lose my mind! The details I remember are so vague so I know the chances are slim but I had to ask! I’m 30 now and read this book when I was a teen so somewhere in the 2000-2010 timeframe I would of thought!
all I remember was it was young adult/teenage fiction about a girl who either moved to a seaside town or went there for the summer, I could of sworn it was by Meg Cabot or the cover had the same illustrator
but Google isn’t digging much up! Im currently trawling my way through the 9000+ YA fiction books on the Waterstones website 😫if it helps, I read a lot of Sarah Dessen, Sara manning, Meg Cabot so I would of thought it would be in that category! I can just see the cover in my minds eye, I swear it was cartoon and pastel like colours! Also I think the girl in it had a cat but I could be misremembering!
thank you in advance to anyone who helps me on my quest, and forever indebted to anyone who finds the right book for me! :)

Didjesuspoop · 04/06/2022 20:55

I can hardly remember anything 😫 I think the girl in it either moved to a seaside town or went to stay there, maybe worked in a cafe, met a boy etc! Sorry it’s so vauge 😫 I had a dream about the book last night and it’s been driving me insane all day!

Can you remember any other details? Sorry but from the details you have given there are lots of books it could fit. Was she there with her family? Friends?

TravellingSpoon · 04/06/2022 21:01

Is it UK based, or US?

Herecomestreble1 · 04/06/2022 21:01

Leaving Poppy? That's the only one I read as a teen where the main character moves to a different town!

Rubytinsleslippers · 04/06/2022 21:03

JoJo Moyes 'Silver Bay'?

Elliesmama87 · 04/06/2022 21:04

Last chance by sarah dessen would be my guest, her mum was some.kind of fitness guru and she was staying with her auntie and her cat norman

CreaToration · 04/06/2022 21:04

I can only think of the Making Waves series by Katherine Applegate or My Secret Lies With You by Faye Bird…..but neither of them are really the right years.

TravellingSpoon · 04/06/2022 21:05

Summer's Shadow by Anna Wilson?

Oldfilmsareshit · 04/06/2022 21:05

Sound like you’re imagining it and even if it’s real you wouldn’t remember it. Does it matter?

DPotter · 04/06/2022 21:06

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Lorn100 · 04/06/2022 21:07

Was it a sophie kinsella book? I used to read them all the time when I was younger?

TravellingSpoon · 04/06/2022 21:08

@Elliesmama87 That sounds promising.

stravagante · 04/06/2022 21:09

Summer sisters by Judy Blume?

HardRockOwl · 04/06/2022 21:13

The runaway summer?

That's very old now but could fit the bill.

Scuttlingherbert · 04/06/2022 21:13

A Little Love Song by Michelle Magorian if it was a girl going to a costal town during WW2.
You should read that one anyway as it's great.

Or the Great Goddon by Meg Rosoff but it's probably too recent.

Stella Etc. - By Karen McCombie

The series is about a girl called Stella, her family and her friends. After moving from London, Stella lives in the seaside town of Portbay with her family, including twin brothers Jamie (who bites) and Jake (who has ginger hair). Stella is a friendly girl who is always ready to give people a chance, no matter what they have been like in the past. She is always on the lookout for possible new friends, and one new friend is added to the group in each book. Stella has brown hair and freckles and a stutter that comes and goes.

Peaches, a strange ginger cat, wanders through the series, giving Stella mysterious signs and bringing the scent of peaches and cream.

HardRockOwl · 04/06/2022 21:13

Runaway summer is by Nina Bawden btw

Dontknowhowtofeel5 · 04/06/2022 21:18

The Angus, Thongs and full-frontal snogging series?

Leeds2 · 04/06/2022 21:25

I would say Stella Etc. Was a whole series of books about a girl who left London with her family to live by the seaside.
