Any ideas what this could be on my 6 week old neck? She also has some on her face. I'm not asking for medical diagnosis, I will contact the health visitor on Monday. In the meantime I just wondered if any other mums have seen anything similar.
Baby isn't showing obvious signs of being unwell but she has cried a lot since birth and I'm starting to wonder if she could have CMPA or another allergy.

Does it fade with a glass? Press a glass on it and check that it goes pale. If no go to A&E

if it fades take her to nurse on Monday. If it’s raised and lumpy my guess would be heat rash, but I’m not medically trained.

Wobblyjob · 04/06/2022 18:13

Looks like a bog standard new baby heat rash.

Doesn’t look like anything to be pressing a glass against tbh.

eggandchips34 · 04/06/2022 18:14

Yes it fades under a glass definitely. I don't think it's anything sinister. It is quite raised, some of the ones on her face also look a bit like white and fluidy so could be milk spots?

Is it a heat rash, is she too hot ?

InsanityOf2020 · 04/06/2022 18:15

It looks like hives to me - maybe an allergy? but the advise about the glass is good just to make sure. Your planned course of action is spot on

JuneOsborne · 04/06/2022 18:18

Sweaty baby neck rash we'd call that in our house (of non medical type people!).

You could steep some chamomile tea bags and let them cool right down, and use the tea as a wash and douse cotton wool pads in it and apply as a sort of compress. Should be very soothing. Perhaps a patch test first wouldn't go a miss, but chamomile is generally one of the gentlest things you can use on a baby.

Looks identical to baby acne. My daughter had this, it didn't bother her but it broke my heart! Coconut oil seemed to work best to get rid of it.

Ballcactus · 04/06/2022 18:26

Baby acne I’d say

yikesanotherbooboo · 04/06/2022 18:30

It's a rather non specific baby rash that can be ignored. It's not hives .

CockSpadget · 04/06/2022 18:30

If you've been cuddling baby with bare arms, it's quite common for them to get a sweaty rash on their neck like that where their bare skin has been resting on yours, especially in warmer weather.

orwellwasright · 04/06/2022 19:31

I've waved the pic under a paediatrician's nose who asked if baby was fit and well.

Possibly heat rash, possibly virus, possibly 'just what a small baby's skin is like sometimes'.

Highly unlikely to be anything of concern.

eggandchips34 · 04/06/2022 19:35

Thank you for all of the replies. Very much appreciated. She is fit and well in the sense that she is eating, sleeping and producing normal nappies but she is (and has been since birth!!!) a very unsettled baby who cries a lot. I suspected colic but the rash is making me think it could be some sort of allergy perhaps.
