PTSD and sleep?

I feel like when people think of PTSD they just think we are all super angry and punch walls and have all the stereotypical symptoms. Some people do experience that, but I do not. I was abused and raped repeatedly by my ex. I am able to have sex and not even think about him, I don't get angry, but I have flashbacks and sleep problems. When I have a flashback, I go into full blown panic mode. When I have a nightmare I act out my actions in my dreams and end up hurting myself. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone else have PTSD and not the 'angry shouty' symptoms? I had an awful night last night and ended up punching myself and hitting my head. Can anyone else relate to the same issues?

Getting angry and punching walls is not the typical symptoms of PTSD. Flashback, sleep problems, dissassociation etc are. What you are experiencing sounds normal for someone who has had such terrible experiences.

EMDR is a very effective treatment, have you ever considered it?

Getting angry definitely can be typical for those suffering with ptsd. I'd love to do EMDR but it isn't offered near me. Not without a big cost sadly.
