I am not actually sure what day it is today, is it Friday.

Lime37 · 03/06/2022 18:55

100% I have loved the 3 day week and the bank Holliday at the end. It feels like bonus Saturdays rarther then extra Sundays

WhatIsThisPlease · 03/06/2022 19:00

No!! I don't work Thursdays and Fridays so I feel cheated!!

To be fair though, I'd rather have a Monday off than a Friday.

EileenGC · 03/06/2022 19:00

In Spain, public holidays can fall on any given day of the week - it's the same date every year, so a different day every year.

6th and 8th of December are holidays. There was one memorable year when they fell on a Tuesday and Thursday. That was fun having a 2 day weekend, 1 day work, 1 day off, 1 day work, 1 day off, 1 day work, then another 2 day weekend. Then Christmas came shortly after and everybody was messed up 😂

If I could choose, I'd take Fridays off over Mondays. But that's because I tend to have Mondays off at work! 😁

What happens if the BH falls on a weekend? And surely Easter changes each year as its never the same date?

If it falls on a weekend, that's it. It's not given in lieu on the Friday/Monday. Over the years it balances out. Easter is of course on a different day each year! Sorry, I forgot to specify that one. It's the exception though, everything else (apart from St Vicente in some regions - Easter-related) is the same day each year.

Same in Germany where I live now - minus the Catholic holidays which are again related to Easter.

Totally negative here but as far as today goes - no.

dp out at 6 to do hobby.
electric went off at 10 (tripped)
then again at 10.20.
noticed outside drain blocked with leaves so unblocked.
hooving utility and noticed water on floor, washer must have tripped electric due to blocked drain.
ds11 asked if he could go to local shop, 2 minute walk there and back and he was gone 20 minutes so rang him. No reply. Knew something wasn’t right so set off to find him. He was munching sweets he bought with £10 grandma gave him yesterday 😡.
dd16 for first time bothered to put bowl in dishwasher for first time when it was clean and covered it all in milk.
had 3 full loads of washing on line and could smell cow shit outside so had to bring it all in and no way of getting it all dry.
dog shit on dining room floor after I just mopped - them I stood in it, not before I opened door onto it so all under door.
looki forward to fish and chips after not stopping cleaning up after everyone else all day long as usual. Chippy shuts at 7.30 and not local. Not going to happen.
dd16 announced she needs lift out and back so my night fucked as dp already told her he would take her.
dp just walked through door, was really nice to him and explained all and he wishes he hadn’t come home. Fallen out.
due on anyway so putting my smiley face on.
fuck today.

Workinghardeveryday · 03/06/2022 19:18

Oh yeah, utility still to sort out. Got most of water up but don’t know where to start

Dh feels the same he does not work Fridays so feels as you do would prefer Monday

Caspianberg · 03/06/2022 19:32

Same here with the bank holidays not carried over thing. If 25/26th December is a Saturday and Sunday, you don’t get Monday and Tuesday off.

May 1st is always a bank holiday, not the 1st Monday in May. So it was a Sunday this year.

RewildingAmbridge · 03/06/2022 19:35

I don't usually work Fridays I work FT over 4 days, so it just means everyone else is off and I don't get the jobs done i usually do!

Darbs76 · 03/06/2022 19:38

Agree as it’s the jubilee it feels more joyous, and more things planned for the weekend. But I do prefer to miss a Monday at work to a Friday. I never mind working a Friday. I worked part time for years having Monday and Friday off and when I went full time it was the Monday I hated adding not Friday. Friday is a good day to work!

Workinghardeveryday · 03/06/2022 20:05

Thanks all, end of a lovely day

Fitterbyfifty · 03/06/2022 20:08

Same in Italy. I much prefer it. We have more bank holidays but of course in any year some will be at the weekend so it all evens out. Plus each town has a bank holiday on its saint's day - which is a pain if you commute tbh!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/06/2022 20:09

I much prefer a Monday bank holiday. I'd have preferred Friday & Monday to Thursday & Friday this week.

balalake · 03/06/2022 20:09

I'd have preferred Monday and Tuesday, but each to their own.

Judellie · 03/06/2022 20:10

Prefer it to be Monday as Thursday's my day off and I feel I missed it!

madamehooch · 03/06/2022 20:13

Working (retail). Have no idea what a bank holiday is.

Same in Spain! Used to have days off school but with extra-curriculars on as they were in different counties, and vice versa. No idea how my mother kept track of all of them.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 03/06/2022 21:03

Nope! Was due to get paid my LHA today but due to bank holiday it was supposed to come on Wed. It didn't. Still had nothing. My landlady isn't happy and neither am I. Apparently the change in bank holiday was too complicated for my local council to work out

MistyGreenAndBlue · 03/06/2022 21:05

And of course, the council offices are closed

Bryonny84 · 03/06/2022 21:20

I'd have loved a day off!! We had no days off for the Jubilee which was disappointing but hey ho, I've got Sat and Sun off and I've got a job so just have to get on with it. I'd prefer bank holidays to be fridays and not mondays in an ideal world.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/06/2022 21:21

I keep thinking that it's Sunday!

Ponoka7 · 03/06/2022 22:22

It's been a pain in areas that have limited buses and taxis because of a lack of drivers. Taxi fares are time and a half, so it's cost people a fortune to get to work. The wait in our three local A&Es was eight hours. Only one local walk in had a prescriber on. Local events seemed badly planned, as well, there was three local events on yesterday and none today. It isn't a bank holiday for the 'essential workers'.
