Help dress me for the beach in Ibiza over 40

[Beachstress]

I have been invited on a girls trip to Ibiza - exciting but not my natural habitat (!) and I have no idea what to wear to beach bars/parties which is age appropriate but not frumpy

Can you help with clothes suggestions please?

I’m not that friendly with the group so when I have asked on the WhatsApp group the answers are ‘dresses, shorts, bikinis, cover ups’.

I am not a sunworshipper so I don’t have bikinis and coverups and will be starting from scratch. All pictures I have googled show women with long flowing hair, string bikinis with their bums out - not a look I can pull off sadly…

Any help to make me feel comfortable gladly accepted - TIA x

I'm a big fan of maxi dresses on holiday, nice and cool, can be dressy or casual, I'd definitely invest in a few of those for a start

Kaftans from H&M are gorgeous and comfy. Maybe a jumpsuit to wear out and a big sun hat and glasses so you don't fry.

I'm early 40's and I prefer to wear tankinis now, you can get some nice ones

back to Trinny & Susannah basics: what physical assets can you show off & which ones do you want to minimise? Is this lounging on beach & in and out of water all the time, or almost pure standing & socialising activity ?

Maxi dresses
One piece swimming costumes. M and S do good ones that are attractive but have control panels to help if you have any wobbles you want to hide.
Kaftan cover up type things. Good to waft about in and to go to the beach restaurant.
Sarongs. Nip in your waist, cover your bum and thighs and tum but give your bottom half a lovely shape.
Tankinis. Buy good quality swim wear. It's really worth it.
Big floppy hat.
Sunglasses.
Lovely summer bag
Small , fun bag for evenings out. Crossbody strap so you can hold the stuff you need but not worry about where you have put it all night

I can't help thinking that if you're 'not that friendly with the group' then you'd be better off not going, never mind having to spend a fortune buying stuff that you may, or may not, ever wear again.

Can I ask what's made you decide to go if you're not great friends, as holidaying with good friends can be tricky, let alone with people you don't know that well?

@Speakuptomakeyourselfheard - it is a pre wedding get together/kind of a hen do. It would be easy to say no but I want to say yes more and put myself out of my usual life. I will get to know the group on the trip

Ibiza is very laid back.
Buy stuff there.

The streets are quite cobbled

I'm not sure "comfy shoes" was what OP was after but made me laugh 😁

Worth telling us where in Ibiza, as what to suggest will vary according to where it is.

You can often pick up reasonably priced linen 3/4 trousers, cover ups and swim wear in supermarkets- asda, sainsburys, tesco, M&S etc. I too love a tankini. Looks like a one piece on, but has the beauty of making loo visits very quick and easy. I always wear natural fibres and not synthetics. Also take a pashmina or cardigan incase its cool in the evenings. I also use it on the plane if its chilly.

Where in Ibiza will you be staying? Which beach clubs will you be at? Go onto Instagram and see what people have been wearing there recently.

I’m mid 30s and usually do denim shorts, nice top and nice flat sandals to arrive/have lunch and then spend 90% of the day in swimwear.

There’s not really an Ibiza dress code, although some groups of hens that go to Ocean Beach seem to think there is and look really tacky.

What about something like this for swimwear? Sounds like I'm shaped similar to you but I hate showing any of my bum so have ordered a couple of these from Shein for my holiday!

As a PP has mentioned Shein have lots of suitable bits. I'm getting some stuff from ASOS but also plan on looking at French Connection and H&m too. Agree with good quality swimwear too which means spending a bit more but totally worth it. I actually bought some swimwear from. Tesco last week and it's actually quite nice! That obviously isn't what I meant when I said good quality but just mentioning this just in case you have one local.
Kaftans, long linen shirt, loose light flared bottoms, big hat and big glasses, birkenstocks do some very cool. And colourful comfy footwear that would suit and right in trend.

Cupshe and Pour Moi have some nice beach dresses and swimwear. F&F have some good summer wear at a very reasonable price, Fatface good for shorts and tops, also dresses. Amazon have a good choice of swimsuits, they do swim dresses which are more flattering l find.
