To ask what would you think of a local cinema group for women?

I've often thought it'd be nice to have a social group on Facebook where women can post if they fancy going to the cinema but have no one to go with. I have DH and friends to go with and don't mind going alone. But I'm very confident socially. I know others who aren't. I've often thought this. Could even lead to friendships. They could go as a group and car share.

We have a local Facebook group I could advertise it on. Plus a community centre. I know the manager of that so might contact her and we could maybe do something together?

Great idea, I belong to a group which operates like a book club. Watch a free to view film , then meet up to discuss it.
It started like your idea, but went online to the current format due to Covid.

I was just thinking today that I’d like to see a film, but DH and DC won’t enjoy it. Would love a cinema group! Sure I could go alone but part of the fun is chatting about the movie afterwards over a snack.

Sounds like book group but for movies.

I’d go. I’d also love a theatre/galleries one as my DH isn’t always that interested and neither are my work/home friends but I’m a bit shy about setting things like that up.

I would love this. Especially if there was a no-sweet-rustling policy because I'm somewhat intolerant.

Sounds lovely. I'd join! I am OK going to the cinema alone, and I usually do. I only have 4 friends, and 2 live 20 to 25 miles away. SO they can rarely make nights out. It's usually just pub lunches once a month!

The other 2 live 4-6 miles away, but work a lot and are very busy. So we only meet every 3 weeks or so. My 2 DC are busy career people who live 20-30 miles away, and DH never wants to go. (CBA to sit still for 2-3 hours with people eating, slurping, and scrunching food wrappers!)

So I would love a specific cinema group. Would be nice to make more friends too. Smile

On our local Facebook group a woman was offering a concert ticket for free as her friend couldn't go and it was to join her as her guest. Lovely offer. A man said he would love to go. Being nosey I clicked on his page and he was awful. Racist, aggressive etc. and I just thought, bloody hell, how are you going to get yourself out of this one??? You never know who you're going to get!!!

On the other hand, I set up a book club, and we are all lovely!

Well not one to sit in my laurels I started one. Got 13 members already. All women thankfully. Or afaik?
Once there's a few more I'll start a discussion. Get people chatting.

I already run a hiking group but that's private. People can find it but me and 2 admins add them and need post approval.

This group is public so far but I'll make it private once there's plenty of members. Just need to keep an eye out for numpties for now

Think a more social activity would be a better idea (coffee shop meet up, mini golf etc.) Cinema could be an awkward place to first meet due to the no talking rule but still a nice idea!

Seems popular so far? They can choose to meet for a cuppa or drink first. Might be good to organise a little group to meet.

I joined a new book group advertised through Nextdoor.com during lockdown and that’s still going strong. We do have a WhatsApp group for the logistics though which might be easier for planning than FB.

If any of you like the idea be brave and start your own local group. I started my walking group a couple of years ago and have 550 members now. It's been so helpful to people. Even men are allowed on that one 🤣

My walking group is firmly women-only and I love it.

I do like the idea of a cinema group but might do it like a WhatsApp group with women who know each other already. I will watch most things.

I personally don't go to the cinema alone as I find it all a bit tricky with my disability but I have a cea card so can bring someone for free.

I do too but not everyone wants to. Hence why the group is so popular. 40 members already and just started it.
