Baby rash or being pedantic?! PICS INCLUDED

PurpleRayne89 · 30/05/2022 19:14

My baby has presented with the same rash on his forehead and eye since we first brought him home from the hospital. He suffers from chronic constipation and I’m wondering whether the 2 could be related.

looks brighter in real life. Was struggling to take photo as he kept dodging the camera.

any experience of this? Any input is appreciated.

We have 2 cats, he’s been EBF, on solids since 5 months. Constipation started at 3 months. I know EBF can go days without a poop but he went 1-2 times a day and would struggle to pass stools.

How old is he now? What does the HV/GP say?
Is his poo hard when he does manage to go? Young babies intestines don't squeeze in the right order (not very well explained sorry) but it can look like they're straining when it's not for the same reason as an older child/adult where the poo is too hard to pass.

Isaidnoalready · 30/05/2022 20:15

Do you drink milk?

orwellwasright · 30/05/2022 20:17

If he's had that since birth why do you think it's a rash? Could it just be pigmentation? Ie. a birth mark. Doesn't look like a rash to me.

Massive caveat: don't seek medical advice from randoms on the internet.

PurpleRayne89 · 30/05/2022 20:25

@Areyoutellingthisstoryorami no haven’t spoken to HV as I stopped seeing them months ago as they literally know nothing. Things I’ve presented to them get the same response “I don’t know”. I always just go straight to my GP. He’s, 8.5 months however. He’s being investigated for HD. First stop of investigation as standard protocol.

@Isaidnoalready Yes but not cows milk. I drink oat milk. I do consume other dairy products such as chocolate.

@orwellwasright its not pigmentation if I said it appears every morning. Sort of makes clear that it disappears shortly after, no? Please don’t make assumptions. I asked for advice not for someone to judge me and assume. I’ve discussed with my GP, he doesn’t seem bothered and dismissed it altogether. That’s doesn’t mean it isn’t anything to worry about or loosely connected to his constipation.

This isn't a rash, it's a pressure mark from the birth (basically, a faint birth mark). It's not harmful or painful (the baby cannot feel it at all) and will get less and less obvious over time. It'll be visible sometimes and not visible at other times but it's always there. It becomes visible when the blood vessels dilate - so, when the skin gets warmer (it's the same as how people go red when they exercise). Don't worry about it at all.

PurpleRayne89 · 30/05/2022 20:28

@Switchin sounds possible. He’s 8.5 months. Could this still be the case?

OP posts:
Heghodge · 30/05/2022 20:29

Looks like a birthmark? My child has one, barely there unless he cries or strains, and then it's really obvious.
I can't see anything you've written which says if the mark is there all the time or if only sometimes?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 30/05/2022 20:30

You didn't say it appears every morning. There's no need to be rude! If the GP isn't worried then why would a bunch of randoms on here suddenly decide it's something to worry about?

PurpleRayne89 · 30/05/2022 20:30

@Heghodge i wrote that on a different bloody site and got confused. Sorry. Sounds plausible. It comes and goes and on occasion his right eye is slightly puffy and red.

Yeah, they can last for years. It also ties in with it coming up every morning too - if he's got a warmer head after sleeping (which makes sense because he's been all snuggled up) then it'll be more visible. The general rule with any mark, pigment, mole, rash, etc - if it's not new then it's not a worry.

Heghodge · 30/05/2022 20:54

Yeah, my best guess is birthmark then. But have you asked the GP about the eye redness specifically? If that's also a birthmark I think they like to check out birthmarks around the eyes? Could be wrong though!

Have you thought about losing the attitude when you ask your GP for support? Might help a little.

When did you say this??

Urgh. Can't believe I tried to help. You're unpleasant.

This isn’t trying to help but more like judgement. I think your definition of help and mind are totally different. I responded to your judgement and you didn’t like it. You clearly lack any form of self reflection. I will not be responding to any further messages from you as I won’t waste my time on a fool.

Everyone else offered advice and contributed positively and thus got the same response in return.

And yet you accuse someone else of lacking self-reflection. Incredible.

Quincythequince · 31/05/2022 01:45

Goodness OP.
YABVU.
First of all for seeking advice from people on the internet regarding your son. Doesn’t matter if you’ve been to 10 doctors and got no answer, this is a bad place to come for medical advice. Will always be a bad place to come as you have no idea who’s posting or if there’s any truth to their answers.

And also, you are quite rude. Rather strange when you’ve come on here asking for help. I mean calling someone a fool when they gave a very reasonable answer.

FWIW - I’m a Doctor and, I wouldn’t begin to try and diagnose this under these circumstances either. You should go through the proper channels; seeking medical advice here for a baby is really not appropriate.

Marvellousmadness · 31/05/2022 04:09

You are rude. And yabu
About this "rash" 😅

PurpleRayne89 · 31/05/2022 11:07

No there is a way to say things without being rude.. It’s not coming here for medical advice, it is more for shared experience. Isn’t that what MN is for? In that case, what do you use it for? I’m sure when someone has the same concerns in future, they will
find this post really helpful especially down to those of you who wanted to judge instead of provide any useful support. Thank you to those who provided useful information.
I can now revisit my GP and present to him a wider range of possibilities in which he’ll be able to support me with!

The only person who has been rude here is you OP. You never said in your OP that the 'rash' appears every morning, and the PP is correct, don't seek medical advice on an internet chat forum
