It's all about showing off on facebook/instagram social media.

I prefer phone calls and conversations.

People are so busy maintaining an image they don't consider the other person anymore.

Indeed.

BigFatLiar · 30/05/2022 08:42

People who genuinely try to be helpful and nice to others tend to be taken advantage of and seen as mugs.

BadWolf2022 · 30/05/2022 08:42

Yup. I deleted Facebook, Instagram and snap chat etc and feel so much better for it.

It's all bullshit look at me attention seeking posts. When in reality most of these people are miserable.

ForestFae · 30/05/2022 08:42

You’re right.

toastedbagiel · 30/05/2022 08:44

The platform is new (ish) - the people are not.

KangarooKenny · 30/05/2022 08:45

Very much so.

And yet you made a Mumsnet post to tell us all how virtuous you are.

CornishGem1975 · 30/05/2022 08:50

People have always been self-centred, it's completely in our nature. We just have different ways to show it now.

BeyondMyWits · 30/05/2022 08:53

Not my experience, but I'm 58, and use neither Facebook Meta nor Instagram. My kids (21, 19) use Snapchat, which is more conversational and bereal which is much less staged than Insta. And whatsapp family groups to keep us oldies in touch. Times move on.

They "talk" much much more with friends and family than we ever did. Granny used to get a thank you letter at Christmas and birthday, now she's on whatever version of video chat regularly.

@FiveNineFive yeah I suppose you're right actually. Thanks
