So we take our 3.5 year old on lots of walks in our local area. I moved away from my fairly flat southern hometown and now live in a rural area with lots of steep hills and valleys in the North.

He walks miles and lots of steep up hills and he has a huge amount of stamina for his age, more than some adults have (including me at times!).

My mum said to me earlier on the phone when we got back from our 2.5 mile walk that she’s worried all the walking is going to have an impact on his bone and joint development and that she “heard it somewhere”.

Are we being unreasonable taking him on all these walks? Is it going to damage him long term?

Your mum!

Maybe suggest she buys a buggy and she can push him up the hills.

Sounds like your mum needs to make sure of her facts, it’d be an interesting one to look into if there is research available.

It is something that applies to walking puppies, maybe she’s getting confused!

Sounds like your mum is confusing children's bone development with puppy bone development?

I think you’re probably right about the puppy thing!
