To have scooped cake batter off the floor, baked it and eaten it?

Really fancied a treat.
I'd walked loads with baby today.
We had nothing in the house otherwise sweet.

I had a Betty Crocker rainbow muffin mix calling to me from the cupboard...

Luckily I had MILs muffin cases she no longer wanted...she never bakes...
By the time I was ready to put them in the oven the paper cases just flopped and batter started going all over the baking tray.

I ran to get some tin foil to make foil cases or a foil buttress if you like... it did work until I raised the tin up to put it in the oven, slipped out if my hands and landed on the floor upside down!

Fuck it I thought, it's going to be baked at 160C so that'll kill anything right?!

Scooped it off the floor and into an ungreased cake pan and then squeezed all remaining batter from each case into the pile of unbaked cake goo and baked the lot.

Unfortunately I couldn't get it out of the pan this evening once baby was asleep, so I've literally torn it out of the pan with my bear hands and lobbed it onto a plate in a pile of broken cake.

It is literally the best cake I've ever tasted... I'm going to die tomorrow aren't I?!

YABU - That's disgusting and bordering on feral

YANBU - You enjoy your cake I'd have done the same.

YANBU, I'd have done the same. My kitchen floor is undoubtedly grubbier than yours too.

Thatswhyimacat · 28/05/2022 21:05

Love it. Enjoy all the delicious cake.

PyjamaFan · 28/05/2022 21:05

I would have done the same! 😂

JustTheOneSwan · 28/05/2022 21:05

Might be a bit gritty but the important question 10 seconds?

Giraffesandbottoms · 28/05/2022 21:06

Depends if you have pets

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:07

@JustTheOneSwan does it apply to liquid cake? I have noticed one gritty bit but that was it...

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:07

@Giraffesandbottoms 2 cats...

JustTheOneSwan · 28/05/2022 21:09

Obviously you can't give it baby because they are feeble but the 10second rule applies.
Dont forget to blow it though if you have pets.

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:11

No don't worry, I've not even saved any for DH!

FOJN · 28/05/2022 21:12

I personally wouldn't have done that but I don't think you are feral (that made me laugh) or die tomorrow; maybe Monday 😂Although if it was the best cake ever then you may have discovered that a bit of floor muck is the secret ingredient in excellent cakes.

I do think you need a muffin tin to reduce the risk of future cake relate trauma/disappointment. Muffin cases are not a stand alone product!

PizzaPatel · 28/05/2022 21:12

Definitely reasonable!! Sounds like you needed the cake after the palaver of making it.

Mangogogogo · 28/05/2022 21:14

You can’t just put cake cases on a baking tray!!

fwiw try out some microwave cake recipes and find one that you love and it is PERFECT for these type of fixes. Mines gluten free so I won’t bother sharing but trial and error :)

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:15

@FOJN seriously never felt like such an animal in my entire life 🤣

Ah a muffin tin...Will put that on the Christmas list!

KarrotKake · 28/05/2022 21:18

Would depend on when I last washed the floor!

If it happened in this house tonight, I do it. If it was last night, with a grim kitchen floor, I'd have cried and binned it.

CounsellorTroi · 28/05/2022 21:19

I’d have done the same.

EarringsandLipstick · 28/05/2022 21:21

I've literally torn it out of the pan with my bear hands

'Bear hands' - sounds about right OP 😂

I mean, no-one is going to die here but it's all a big grim really.

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:24

@KarrotKake but surely 160C would kill anything?!

OP posts:
Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:25

@EarringsandLipstick exactly!!!

😉

KarrotKake · 28/05/2022 21:26

@Imhavingmycakeandeatingit more the amount of mud and cat hair that was on the floor after parenting solo for a week than risk of an upset stomach!

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:27

Since my baby learned to crawl and lick everything and anything and survive I have a developed a new outlook on personal food preparation 😂

OP posts:
Giraffesandbottoms · 28/05/2022 21:34

I think given the cats YABU. Im
pretty relaxed about food on the floor but we have a dog and I at least do a check for hair 😃

Imhavingmycakeandeatingit · 28/05/2022 21:38

@Giraffesandbottoms but hair is organic after all 🤔

summer712 · 28/05/2022 21:47

Feral cake 🎂 yes I'd of done the same.

Probably lashed a bit of custard, ice cream or yoghurt over it also and made it really feral

TheCanyon · 28/05/2022 21:59

We have 4 long haired females, a long haired cat and a lab here so unfortunately I'd be crying in the corner in this situation. But I applaud you.

YANBU just because betty crockers rainbow cake is THE shit, hairy or not.
