Facebook marketplace

I've been using Facebook marketplace to buy and sell for a year or so now, great for finding bargains on second items etc.

Except more recently I'm finding it infuriating, as it seems over half of the items on there are ads to items on Etsy etc or new items being sold via third parties with fake prices and links to websites when you message the 'seller'.

AIBU in being immensely irritated by this as I view marketplace as a place to find local secondhand finds? I don't want to sift through items that just link to dodgy websites!!

Yup Facebook marketplace is gone downhill. I have reported and blocked over 100 people and thier fake adverts selling:

  • sofas for £70-£75
  • garden sheds £60-£75
  • garden furniture

Hasn't helped as these sellers have thousands of Facebook profiles and the same adverts pop up with a different name.

They are not that price, send URLS that look scammy to buy off thier apparent websites. Very catfishy and ruined marketplace.

YANBU I seem to get loads of adverts for things "plus £3.50 postage" and no location info so I don't know if they're close enough to collect or if its post only.

And yes, brand new or handmade things at full price. Not what I'm looking for.

Yes. I'm noticing this. Lots of ads for garden furniture and a good price and local town mentioned in the 'location' bit, but very obviously a business post, possibly even a scam.
