Hate my fucking tooth

I’ve had a root infection since before Christmas. Waited 6 months for RCT and completed the first treatment. Was sent away with a temporary filling which has broken and been replaced several times already . Waiting for an appointment to go back for the next RCT but no availability for another 5 months. Broken the temporary filling again- im not even eating using that bloody tooth I’m just eating soft foods and it still broke. My tooth pain had eased off after the first treatment and I’m getting the broken temporary filling fixed in 10 days. But it has become excruciating again, like it was before my first root canal treatment. My face is throbbing and I can’t bite down on that side of my face as the toothache is so severe. I’m actually upset as I thought the pain was over with the root canal and now it’s back again. Does this mean it’s infected all over again? Or is it just because the temporary filling is broken and awaiting being fixed again?

it was so bad a few months ago before the RCT that I didn’t sleep for 3 days in a row with the pain and my face was throbbing. I was almost screaming in pain at one point because of how extreme it was in my ear and cheek and tooth. Im so worried it goes back to how sore it was before. I thought starting the RCT would stop the pain from ever starting again and I don’t want it to end up like this way it was before

not an AIBU just a frustrated rant/cry

That's an infection. The tooth should have no nerve now as they remove it in the first treatment so cannot be causing you pain itself. Any pain from it is likely to be infection underneath it, probably due to the filling breaking and bacteria getting trapped.

Sounds like an abscess , you probably need dental antibiotics

Whooshaagh · 28/05/2022 19:25

This happened to me OP.
I emailed my dentist and he got me in the next day. I was practically begging though.
Take anti inflammatorys in the meantime as well as painkiller’s and try to get antibiotics.

Oh I hadn’t actually realised the nerve comes out in the first treatment, I actually don’t know anything about teeth or dentistry at all and I’m totally clueless! If the tooth doesn’t have a nerve anymore what is it that’s infected this time and causing the pain? There’s no swelling or abscess on the gum if that makes a difference.

its like an achey pain which becomes throbbing and unbearable at times. Eating on it is impossible now, when I broke it the first time it wasn’t as bad but it’s excruciating to bite down on the tooth now

Which tooth is it ? .. I had one removed this month because the dentist said RC don't always work .

Toothproblemsagain · 29/05/2022 19:36

Not sure of specific tooth names but it’s a big one at the back beside my wisdom tooth. Top right if it helps!

I've had 2 root canal fillings. Both failed after about a year. Had both teeth taken out. They are at the back and don't notice them missing. Maybe just consider having it removed.

Oh yeah just get it out , it's not worth this pain , have you got Oragel ? It saved me as I waited to have mine removed .
