To give baby 2 letters for a name

happypet · 27/05/2022 22:26

A close relative has named their child a 2 letter name. None of business at all I know, but I feel for the child growing up. Its not Vi, Lu or Ed or something to makes a possible name- just letters. To make it worse IMO- the letters represent their own nicknames, not their actual names! Think something like these examples:
Baby will be legally named JT- after parents nn Juggly and Toddy or named CJ- after parents Chrisy and Joker or named TS after Toddy and Slobby.
Can a baby even be registered with 2 letters like that?

I know of children called DJ and TJ so I presume so

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 27/05/2022 22:29

I can think of 3 kids with names like this but I think they're officially registered as Chrissy Joker and just called CJ

Mistlewoeandwhine · 27/05/2022 22:30

Io is a nice name.

headofpotsandpans · 27/05/2022 22:32

None of [my] business at all I know

This is what it comes down to.

Notimeforaname · 27/05/2022 22:34

I know an A.J

OwlinaTree · 27/05/2022 22:36

As long as it's not BJ!

RuthW · 27/05/2022 22:38

I have heard of an Ajay and a T-jay

PattyMelt · 27/05/2022 22:39

I know one boy whose parents spelled his name as Bo, but said the same as if it was spelled Beau.

emmeline7725 · 27/05/2022 22:41

I have come across several KCs. That's their official birth certificate name so it seems it is acceptable (although silly in my opinion)

LocalHobo · 27/05/2022 22:41

My DD has a friend called Mi. It doesn't seem to cause any problems.

BelperLawnmower · 27/05/2022 22:42

Well I guess often people here are told "If you want your kid called Alfie then register him as Alfie, not Alfred".
Isn't it just the same? If you're going to call her BJ then register here as BJ, not Barbara Joan.

ThreeLittleDots · 27/05/2022 22:45

It's fine. I think the only things not allowed in the UK are numbers and swear words.

Quite a few babies named ia here.

EverNapping · 27/05/2022 22:48

I've come across Kc before

bakewellbride · 27/05/2022 22:50

I know a JJ! It's short for 2 normal names though so that's obviously very different to the letters actually going on the birth certificate. Just makes me think of fucking cocomelon!

lottie222 · 27/05/2022 22:51

I know a Cy.. pronounced Sigh.

SpaceJamtart · 27/05/2022 22:52

I know a PJ and an RJ and a CeeJai and the last one is the only one that gets spelt wrong all the time

Toddlerteaplease · 27/05/2022 22:53

I've met a KT.

toastofthetown · 27/05/2022 22:59

None of business at all I know

Exactly. Do your relatives know you’re on here criticising their newborn’s name?

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 27/05/2022 23:01

My nephew is called Cy.

There are plenty of famous Bo's though. That's a normal spelling for it

How else could you pronounce it? They’re the same to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 27/05/2022 23:07

The best letters name is Abcde.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 27/05/2022 23:09

Don't love the idea, but some combos could sound like names - Vijay, Gigi, Jaycee. Or just the first initial could work: Bee, Dee, Jay, Kay, Em. (Dubya). Some others like XH or or YG could be tough.

WimpoleHat · 27/05/2022 23:12

I know a JJ too - but that’s her actual
name. Causes some confusion on documents, which often get returned with “full name, not initials only”.

happypet · 27/05/2022 23:27

@WimpoleHat - Other than the confusion on documents, its the 'What is your real name' she will be endlessly asked I feel will have issues. Thanks.
