I work for the same company as my cousin she has recently moved to the same department as me.
In 2020 I was diagnosed with cancer, not many of my colleagues know this but my cousin does. At the moment we are short staffed, I work part time and find that if I work too many hours I get fatigued quickly and get run down and pick up illnesses so I try and limit how much overtime I do.
My cousin had a go at me today saying that I should be working overtime. I feel so upset if she feels like this knowing about my illness how do my other colleagues think not knowing I have been ill.

does she know you have cancer that is actively affecting you at the moment - i.e. is this something you would discuss with her outside work? Or was she told 2 years ago and has now forgotten or thinks it is resolved and does not affect you.

if the former, she is being a prize idiot and very unhelpful.

if the latter, you would either have to remind her that you are unwell or ignore her comments.

@parietal she knows that since I was diagnosed I have struggled with fatigue, some days are worse than others.

Tell her to mind her own business in work. Your work hours are no one else’s business, it’s between you and the boss/company.

Unless it’s somehow stated in your contract, no-one is obliged to work above their contracted hours. Tell cousin to STFU!!!

Wow what a horrible person. She's meant to have your back knowing your personal medical issues. I would tell her quite firmly to mind her own business.
