Posting to try and take our minds off bad things for a moment
I'm in my fifties someone on here posted about a "Party wall" a few weeks ago, I laughed because I thought they were mistaken, I have always thought the word for a wall between two properties was "Parting wall"
How did I not know ??
Also over the years when I've watched, usually men taking off the tops of beer bottles with their hands on US programmes.
I may or most definitely may have tried to do this myself not realising they have twisty tops in the US.
You ?

"Another think coming"

ChristineCagney11 · 27/05/2022 10:50

@Noodlewave
That's brilliant, I actually prefer it to the original.

I sang the wrong words to It’s Raining, It’s Pouring until I was nearly 40.

When I said this to my mother, she insisted that no, I had the right words and she’d learned them from her mother.

3 generations singing a Nursery Rhyme wrong.

Ticksallboxes · 27/05/2022 10:53

That's a revelation about the US beer bottles!

Until quite recently I (like many people apparently) thought the Channel tunnel went through the sea, not under the ground!

SneezesHaveStarted · 27/05/2022 10:53

I genuinely believed until long after I had passed my own driving test, that it was illegal to drive along with the internal lights on in the car. And I just had to google it again now before I posted, to make ansolutysure that it really isn’t illegal 😃

SneezesHaveStarted · 27/05/2022 10:54

@SpiderVersed what words were you singing? I’m intrigued!

Grin That IS the original OP, people always mistake it for “another thing coming”

'Another think coming' is the original and correct saying.

ChristineCagney11 · 27/05/2022 11:00

@SneezesHaveStarted
I also believed that and I'm fairly sure I've argued with people in past that I was correct.
Have only just found out this year that's a lie. 😆

🫤 How come I was pulled over by the police for this?

Caresha · 27/05/2022 11:06

I thought this really nice priest who used to visit my primary school had committed suicide. I have no idea why, except that my y2 teacher had at roughly the same time so maybe I got confused. I thought about them both quite a lot and now 30 years later it turns out he's still alive. I only found out recently and I'm still baffled.

girafferaffle · 27/05/2022 11:07

Centre Parks not being in a dome. I really did think it was in a dome.

But… but…

You’re telling me it’s under the sea bad? How on Earth? 😮 I think that’s more impressive tbh!!

I remember seeing some documentary on bridges (I know, rock n roll!) and one of the Brooklyn bridge’s towers couldn’t be attached to the bottom of the bed so it’s just floating in the mud somewhere between the bottom and the water 😐😂

Coffeetree · 27/05/2022 11:09

When I was 45 my father told me that if you pee in a swimming pool, the water around you will turn blue. This is due to the chemical reaction of the urine's nitrogen and ammonia reacting with the chlorine.

When I was 45 I was talking about swimming with some friends and someone expressed worry about pee in the pool. I assured her no, you always know if someone has peed because you'll see the water turn blue around them.

Four decades. Well done Dad.

Coffeetree · 27/05/2022 11:09

When I was 5 he told me!! Not 45 gah

Phyllis321 · 27/05/2022 11:10

I grew up near Cambridge and at 16 embarrassed myself at school by referring to Adam Brook's Hospital (it's Addenbrooke's and pretty famous apparently..).
My dad thought that the word was chimley into adulthood.

Was it in Friends that someone thought you put someone on a pedal stool?

Me too. I mean I like to think I am relatively intelligent, and a small period of reflection would surely show that as a piece of engineering that would be unprecedented. But until I first visited 13 years ago, I really thought the woods and the lodges and everything were all under a glass dome.

It’s 40m below the sea bed!

Until recently I thought the teams on University Challenge were actually on top of each other.

Onlyhuman123 · 27/05/2022 11:20

Not me...my DD (now 16) thought that 'lmnop' was a letter in itself; up until about the age of 8. This was because they used to sing a song of the alphabet and 'lmnop' was sung quicker than the other letters so she always thought it was one letter. god love her.

Not quite all my life, but into young adulthood...

That is you had a meal and drank milk and orange juice (or even orange squash) with it then you would absolutely 100% vomit everywhere immediately. I freaked out when I saw my uni housemate drinking orange juice with his weetabix & milk one morning!
