wieghtloss coach dumped me

I signed up with a personal coach a couple of months ago. It wasn't cheap, in the region of £150 a month, but I really wanted to try something different to shift some weight. The service I got was friendly and encouraging, but I came to realise that I was getting the same feedback everyweek, and wasn't making much on-paper progess (2.5kg in 6 weeks).

Before the next payment came out at the end of this month I decided that I couldn't afford to lay out that amount of money for another month and only be getting essentially the same things repeated to me, and let the trainer know, saying I'd rather spend my expendable income on doing some in person fitness classes where I would be guranteed to be pushed rather than having interuptions form offspring in my living room while I'm tyring to do squats.

The trainer immediately locked me out of the app, even though I was 5 days away from paymet recurence and 10 days from the two month anniversary of me actually starting the plan. They sent me a message essentially saying 'It's not just about exercise it's about food / maybe the timing isn't right / maybe you just can't be bothered' . And then they posted on their socials about people who give up when the going gets tough.

I'm not really bothered about the socials and the message. I know that I have motivation and that I will lose some weight and I appreciate the help that they gave me to get started. But I did pay for that help, quite a substanital amount, and I feel like I've been a bit shafted...

How did you pay?

Snowflakes1122 · 26/05/2022 13:53

Maybe you should post a review of your experiment with this very unprofessional PT?

Sounds like you made the correct decision to leave - their attitude is very unprofessional

Snowflakes1122 · 26/05/2022 13:53

*Experience. For goodness sake 🤦🏼‍♀️

Lacedwithgrace · 26/05/2022 13:57

That's so unprofessional of them! As PP said, leave a review and maybe comment on their post

lemonworld · 26/05/2022 14:22

@Sortilege It was with something called Stripe which I've never used before. A subscription which went off my debit card and I couldn't control or see it. I had to ask them to cancel the subscription.

Well, it was something of a (failed) experiment... 😉

Thats really bad. Of course its mostly about diet but they are supposed to be paid to walk you through it and help you overcome the obstacles of course they cant do it for you but its like having a counciller they are paid to teach you the ways whether you do it or not is not her concern so not sure why she dumped you, sounds like she took it personally. Your the one paying for the service

Youaremysunshine14 · 26/05/2022 14:25

You need to cancel the DD with them asap, otherwise they could keep taking the money.

You could try contacting the bank that issued the card and see if they can do a charge back.

Join your local leisure centre with Everyone Active for around £25 per month and you can do as many fitness classes as you like and there's a huge range of different types of class

She does sound pretty unprofessional

Ohrwurm · 26/05/2022 14:53

I'd also be leaving a review on their Facebook / Trustpilot. Warn others.
Very unprofessional

Singlebutmarried · 26/05/2022 14:54

Wow. I pay around £120 a month and get 3 in Preston PT sessions a week (never more than 10 to a class) plus a bonus class should I have the time each week.

I also get regular messages from my PT and dietary advice. There’s a great online group as well where we all share ideas.

They do ‘holiday’ work out plans for when you’re away and I cannot say enough good things about them.

I recently was very poorly and couldn’t go for a few months and they paused my membership without my needing to ask.

I think you’ve been a touch shafted.

Leave a review. Move on and find a better club to belong to.

Singlebutmarried · 26/05/2022 14:56

Oh and ask for a prorata refund. If they’ve blocked access before your ‘credits’ have run out, then you should pursue this also.

Workawayxx · 26/05/2022 19:54

Very unprofessional. I agree with leaving a review. They should definitely have given you the full access that you'd paid for!

For £150, I would expect a lot more. Having said that, 2.5 kgs in 6 weeks is pretty good I'd say as a stable weight loss - over a lb a week.

Stripe is a bit like PayPal. We use it for our subscription service where I work. You could dispute through them similar to how you can with Paypal. You should get 1/3 of £150 back.

gamerchick · 26/05/2022 19:57

Was it online or in person? A PT definitely has to be in person.
