Is your sofa bed comfy as a sofa?

We have a (second hand) Chesterfield-style 3 seater leather sofa bed. As a pull out style sofa bed, the bed isn't too bad - I've used it myself. It could probably do with a new mattress, but I've padded it with an old duvet for now.

As a sofa though, I hate it with a passion. I get a dead arse and dead leg no matter how I sit on the damn thing.

DH loves it but doesn't sit on it and would like to keep it if we can, and tbh I'm sick of switching out bloody sofas as this is our third second hand sofa in five years and would prefer to make it more comfortable rather than faff all over again.

Has anyone got one of these things? Is yours comfy or am I just fat and old? How do I make this thing comfortable to sit on of an evening?

We do, I love ours. It's fairly new though (got it around October last year) but the cushions are fairly solid and not saggy. Our old one sank after about half a year.

It's ok but not as comfy as I would like. The cushions are spectacularly misshapen. I'm gutted to be honest, it was the first new sofa I've ever bought and it feels like such a waste of money. I wish I'd bought a normal sofa and a separate double height electric pump air bed.

Hmm, not just me then.

Do you have anything covering the bed mechanism - so before the cushions sit on top? I'm thinking it needs something over the top of the legs / metal frame etc because that seems to be whats hurting me.

I have a feeling that in a crappy student flat many moons ago, we had a sheet of plywood over the mechanism, but then that seems to defeat the object of comfort.....

We haven't put anything on top. Well, a blanket on the leather so I don't stick/freeze to it.

I've never found a sofa bed that works equally as good as a sofa AND a bed. It one or the other. You either both roll into the middle or the bed, its wiry or the seat is uncomfortable and often low to the ground. Sorry- no help at all.

If anyone has a good one pls can you name it/ the shop because I need one but agree, they don’t tend to be comfy sofas!

We bought ours from designersofas4u . I was worried because the website looks so crappy but we did get the sofa we ordered.

I love ours. It's from Nabru. You can choose soft or firm seating, we have soft and still can't feel the bed mechanism, sofa bed seats feel the same as the other seats.

Mooloolabababy · 27/05/2022 18:55

We used to have 2 matching sofas, one was a sofa and the other a sofa bed. I would never sit on the sofa bed if I had a choice as it was way more uncomfortable than the sofa!
