AIBU to think this is a weird sandwich?

On a journey this morning and I stopped in a small town to get a sandwich. Went into a cafe that does take out sandwiches and ordered a ham salad sandwich. It was £5.40 but I thought well it'll be homemade and fresh.

Sandwich has one thin layer of ham, iceberg lettuce, loads of onion, one slice of cucumber, masses of grated carrot and a huge thick layer of sweetcorn!!

Generally a ham salad sandwich is tomato, lettuce and cucumber and maybe the odd extra thing. I didn't mind the carrot and onion but the thick layer of sweet corn was really odd and seems a bizarre thing to put in to a ham salad sandwich. A surely lots of people wouldn't like this?

Anyway, once I'd picked out the vast amount of sweet corn and the onion ( only because I have a meeting. I don't want my breath to smell) I'm left with one thin slice of ham, lettuce, one slice of cucumber and a load of carrot which is all rather disappointing for £5.40.

AIBU?

A £5.40 sandwich should have plenty of the main ingredient imo so you should have got more than once slice of ham!

I like sweetcorn so it wouldn't have bothered me but I know some people hate it!

It wasn't even decent naice ham 😂
Just seems very odd to put in such a marmite ingredient

I like sweetcorn but I wouldn't be impressed by raw onion in a lunchtime sandwich. I'd be tasting (and smelling of) raw onion for the rest of the afternoon! I think sweetcorn and raw onion are both things that would usually be an optional extra, rather than coming as standard.

For a £5.40 sandwich it should been lots more ham than one slice! Bloody hell.

You've been robbed. You can get far better at Greggs for 3 quid

Dogscanteatonions · 23/05/2022 11:02

It was this place or the Spar and they only had old sandwiches there. Greggs would indeed have been better!

I would have tipped every disgusting little kernel on the counter....

This is why I now take my own food or only order from places I know serve decent quality / portions.

On Saturday I got a takeaway. In the £14.90 prawn dish there were 5 prawns!

Leave them a bad review on Google Reviews.

jammyrose · 23/05/2022 11:22

Does seem like a strange take on your usual ham salad, but then on the other hand there are people who eat cheese and chocolate sandwiches so relatively normal in comparison. Could have been a lot worse!

Dogscanteatonions · 23/05/2022 19:27

That's shocking for 14.99! I will leave a review - it was a rip off

YANBU - I would expect more ham and not the carrot , onion or sweet corn (I do eat all these things but would not expect them in a ham salad sandwich)

I would probably though have said something if I could see what the preparer was putting in it.

Good grief, that's robbery. It sounds like it would have been very messy to eat, too.

AchatAVendre · 23/05/2022 19:46

Thats a very strange sandwich, and puts the one I was offered in a local cafe to shame. They advertised freshly made sandwiches, I went in and asked for chicken mayonnaise. No, they didn't have it. I asked for tuna. Again no. I must have looked at a loss, because the guy behind the counter said he could do a chicken and gravy sandwich for me. I declined, not entirely reluctantly, and gave up.

Dogscanteatonions · 23/05/2022 19:47

It was made out the back so I couldn't see - I would definitely have said something if I'd seen it being made. I like sweetcorn but on the cob with lashings of butter!

A ham sandwich should be, er, mostly ham. Sounds like they bulked it out with veggie crap and a thin slice of ham to satisfy the trades description act. This stuff drives me fucking mental. Not brick-through-the-window mental but not far off it.

Well that's bloody odd to say the least!!
