To think this was cruel? Dog ear matts

This video popped up on my YouTube suggested vids. I watched it and I'm feeling quite upset, to be honest!

Never seen a dog with such badly matted ears. Also neve seen a groomer rip out the mats like that! I'm fairly sure the groomer I used to use would recommend that dog be seen by a vet. Also not keen on how the groomer in the video was forcing swabs into the dog's ears to clean them. (My vet said to just clean the outside of my dog's ears and not to put anything into the actual ear cannel.)

Aibu?

I'm not going to watch your video because it doesn't make any difference to the advice.

Report to RSPCA or whatever local animal welfare charity is relevant if you think something was cruel. Then stop watching videos that will upset you.

I'm a vet, and that video is a "how not to manage ear problems" instruction video. I didn't watch the whole thing, but plucking fur from ear canals = no longer recommended by veterinary dermatologists (the experts on ear canal disease). Putting powder in ears = hasn't been advisable for at least 30 years. And if the "groomer" is forcing swabs into the ear as you say, that is also a bad idea.

Normally I wouldn't have but it's not something I know very much about, hence the post. My dog is single coated and doesn't grow ear fluff so I genuinely have no idea about this sort of thing.

I also have no idea where the woman lives or works - somewhere in America, I'd guess by the accent but apart from that, no idea so it would be impossible to report her.

Thank you.

That was my gut feeling. Yes, she has cotton rounds on hemostats and was pushing them into the ear canal.

Not watching the video but yes, that sounds like very outdated advice. Not necessarily 'cruel' (can't tell because I haven't watched it) but certainly not the recommended way to manage blocked/dirty ears in a dog.

Thanks! It was a large very solid plug of hair and at points it seemed like she was pulling with most of her weight. 🙁🙁🙁
