Kids playing football on the M25

The traffic is stopped both directions on M25 near J9, I’m stuck in it. Been here ages. people out their cars all over the place, but some idiots have let their kids out to play football on the other side of the motorway.

AIBU to give parents most idiotic parents of the year award? Traffic could be released any time.

before anyone asks, I’ve reported it to police so they can clear the motorway.

Stupid beyond words !
There could well be Police/Fire/Ambulance vehicles at speed on the hard shoulder or moving through traffic .

But whenever there's a hold up there's always someone getting out of the car to stretch , have a piss or chat to another driver .

Hope you;re not stuck there too long OP

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 22/05/2022 15:12

Heaven forbid the children have to cope with being bored for a couple of hours. Nobody should be out of their cars. So bloody irresponsible

stayathomer · 22/05/2022 15:13

Who voted yabu? Good they didn’t get hurt. Scary stuff

Spidey66 · 22/05/2022 15:16

Some people don't have the brains they were born with.

The other day I was cycling to work. One road I go down has a primary and a secondary school on it so is fairly busy at around 9am (and presumably 3.30 but I don't cycle on it till gone 5pm). This guy was cycling with his 2 primary school kids cycling behind him. Fair enough. But behind the kids the family staffie was trotting behind them in the middle of the road, no lead nothing. I mean WTF!?! He's putting the life of himself, his kids, the dog, and any other road user ar risk!

Blarting · 22/05/2022 15:17

Bloody hell, that's madness!

PurassicJark · 22/05/2022 15:23

Some people shouldn't be allowed to have kids. These are examples of those people. Wonder who they'd blame if the kids got hit by a car once traffic moves.

Darbs76 · 22/05/2022 15:25

wow never heard anything so stupid in all my life

andtheycalledthewindmoriah · 22/05/2022 16:19

Many parents don't give a hoot about their kids.

AtomicBlondeRose · 22/05/2022 16:22

@Spidey66 I would assume the family didn’t know the dog was there 😂 but maybe I’m being charitable with that.

Oblomov22 · 22/05/2022 16:25

Good grief. How stupid. 2 accidents, both sides? Why has traffic stopped both sides? That's unusual.

TrashyPanda · 22/05/2022 16:39

That’s neglect at best, child endangerment at worst.

I live close to a motorway and there are accidents every day. Mainly due to speeding and lack of care and attention. I have witnessed the police closing down the entire motorway, both sides, for a minor bump on one side.
Back to the subject of kids playing on the carriageway, I know 2 youngsters both killed running across the carriageway so PP is correct, the traffic could start up again at any time, so NOBODY should be out of their cars!!

LouisRenault · 22/05/2022 16:42

Traffic news says it's so the air ambulance can land.

Oblomov22 · 22/05/2022 16:54

@Georgeskitchen
That wasn't what I meant. I live near'ish to OP's place- J9 of M25. I don't travel on motorway much day to day because don't need to. Yes there are accidents.

But not both sides closed. I disagree with you. J9 closed both sides doesn't happen that often.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/05/2022 16:59

🤦

A few years ago I called the police about 2 kids running down the central reservation barrier of the M621 immediately south of Leeds at rush hour. They were younger than 10. Goodness only knows how they got there. That stretch of road is never quiet!

I hope nobody is hurt and you get moving again soon OP.

I never even thought of that! But as you're going out the door wouldn't you be checking you've got all your own stuff and that the kids have helmets, homework etc and the dog would be obvious?

My favourite tale of when DD was a baby is when she toddled along the outside lane of the M5.

Same situation, both lanes closed (no traffic on opposite carriageway) as they were awaiting the air ambulance. We'd been stopped half an hour at this point and it was sweltering and she was screaming. Other motorists were outside their cars so we got out for a bit. She had a great time for 15 mins before we got back in the car, had some milk and then she slept for the remaining 2 hours we were stopped.

I don't think I would be getting a football out though.

balalake · 22/05/2022 18:58

The parents concerned should face prosecution and if the law allows it, a very long driving ban.

No, one accident, anticlockwise into the central reservation with multiple cars. Assume they shut clockwise for safety reasons.

Well the kids had given up on the football and stood on the concrete central reservation barrier when traffic was released - as I expected about 20 motorbikes appeared going very very fast all at once. They stood there waving a cheering.

idiots but at least they weren’t hurt. Parents really should get a fine. They obviously didn’t care.
