To feel like illness has become the new threat in the media

Everyday it feels likes there's something new health wise to be scared of. Obviously we had covid which I was very careful about and suffered lots of health anxiety over that's started to ease. Then hepatitis and now moneypox. The headlines seem to be aiming the danger/threat towards kids just read a child is in intensive care with moneypox. It's constant and sending me into overdrive. Anyone else? AIBU?

No. I’ve stopped watching the news. It sounds like you need to as well.

ChickensandCows · 22/05/2022 06:47

Stop reading and watching the news.

GirlCrushxxx · 22/05/2022 06:49

Quite like the sound of MONEYPOX!!

GirlCrushxxx · 22/05/2022 06:50

and 'every' day? Seriously op?? Are you sure it's every day or are you trying to stir up drama?

Nothappyatwork · 22/05/2022 06:51

There’s always something, so far in my life time I’ve managed to navigate not catching aids, not developing cancer, so far I’ve not had covid and monkeypox seems unlikely too.

no doubt I’ll be hit by a bus but I’m not gonna spend my whole life worrying about this possibility.

2 diseases in 2 years, do you mean?

Choufleurfromage · 22/05/2022 06:56

Moneypox? There's a disease!😀

Tragically a three year old died of a tummy bug in Turkey recently, are you still going on holiday ?

Bluebellsand · 22/05/2022 07:00

It all those cookies. Look at houses and you will get adverts on beautiful houses (hopefully). Or search about pregnancy and get lot of adverts or video suggestions about things pregnancy related.

Health wise, be sensible and risk plan. With risk planning the key is moderation.

OddBoots · 22/05/2022 07:05

High profile infectious disease must be very stressful when you suffer from health anxiety as it is so much harder (if not impossible) to look at it objectively and judge the risks. It would be much kinder on yourself not to read/watch the news but I can understand why that is hard to do when it is everywhere and will still be on your mind.

I don't have answers for you but I can empathise, I get anxious about different stuff and I know how crippling it can get at times.

Hbh17 · 22/05/2022 07:07

It's all media bt. Because of scientific & medical advancement, there is less risk to our health now than there has ever been.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/05/2022 07:10

Everything's a bloody "crisis" or emergency. So much bloody hyperbole and no perspective, be it health, climate or economics.

We're not designed to live in constant heightened stress, so we shut down and ignore the issues that aren't immediate threats.

Then there's very little critical thinking and analysis; when our public services are over stretched and underfunded, is it worth spunking millions on investigating and fining people because they "illegally" ate/ drank/ opened their small businesses two years ago. Is that really value in the public interest in 2022? No, we're onto a new "crisis" and generating more clickbait. 🙄

Imnotanumber · 22/05/2022 07:16

I get anxious when I don't see much written about climate change because sometimes it seems like we're heading into disaster with our eyes shut
