AIBU to ask what all these NHS discounts are?

Off the back of the other thread, I’m NHS with a Bluelight card and wondering what all these amazing discounts are that people speak of?

I paid £5 for my card, have only used it in Starbucks and yet to redeem the cost over 6 months. Everywhere I ask they don’t take it. Never get time to log onto website to check and don’t do a lot of shopping/ eating out to be fair as money is tight.

I’m considering doing my weekly shop at Asda, so that’s a win for them.

Any other great discounts I should know about?

Lots of clothes shops - new look, shein etc. Got 10% of new shark hoover recently and also 30% off of longleat tickets. Do you have the app as that makes it really quick and also provides a digital copy of the card that you can use

serenghetti2011 · 21/05/2022 08:48

Fat face is 20% off
i just check before I buy anything, I don’t buy anything special because of it. But you just type in where you will be shopping it’ll tell you if you have a discount.

LulusMiniEgg · 21/05/2022 08:50

My DH got 30% off Levi’s the other day and about 20% off a suit in moss bros too (not exactly regular purchases but a big help!). Plus I used it for 10% off in Shuh. This sounds like a very extravagant day out doesn’t it?! We don’t usually spend so much money in one day! But anyway what I would say is ask everytime you buy anything as most places will offer at least some discount.

Confuseddotcombo · 21/05/2022 08:51

@Findahouse21 ooh no, I don’t have the app. Got to be better than the website which I find faffy to use. Thanks I will download

We always use it for the cinema. Got limitless passes on it and you can get discounted tickets. It's through a site called cinema seats I think. It's convoluted but worth it.
I think Asda have 10% off at the moment. Our local outlet village accept it in most places too.

Findahouse21 · 21/05/2022 08:55

Tge website is so clunky!! The app is a definite improvement :)

Iliketeaagain · 21/05/2022 08:55

I have a BLC. What I've often found is that similar deals can often be found elsewhere on various voucher codes websites or if you signed up for a website newsletter, especially for the 10% off type codes

Where I've found I've saved is - Levi's (20 or 30% off), Schuh (20% of dds school shoes) and cinema tickets.

I only use it to check if there is a deal on something I'm going to but anyway - and sometimes there are pretty good deals for a short time.

River Island do discount and my DD'S take their work badge to get discount in Superdrug. I agree about getting the app.

Divebar2021 · 21/05/2022 08:59

I always forget about it too but I have used it at the Odeon. It almost wasn’t worth it for the amount of hassle but I think the discount for Limitless was definitely good. I don’t shop at the retailers that they seem to have discounts with which is why I tend to forget it.

Meandyouandyouandme · 21/05/2022 09:00

I’ve just moved house and bought some new appliances and I got 10% of at AO.com which saved loads and I got 15% off Silentnight and bought an amazing mattress.

Tangelablue · 21/05/2022 09:00

I've used my blue light card mostly in go outdoors.

Thecatwokemeup · 21/05/2022 09:01

We've gone to Chessington, longleat and Alton towers on their blue light days. So much quieter!

clary · 21/05/2022 09:03

You need to look at the website. They had 50% off at Seasalt a couple of years ago and I bought a £120 coat I was lusting after for £60. Lots of discounts on beauty sites too.

DuckWithOneWing · 21/05/2022 09:03

I used it to get 50% off an Emma mattress, bit they regularly do 40% off for all customers so it wasn't as amazing as it sounds

Confuseddotcombo · 21/05/2022 09:04

@Thecatwokemeup that sounds great- do you sign up to find out about those? I had a look at legoland previously but it was sold out

Someone in front of me in the queue used it in sports direct yesterday

Invisimamma · 21/05/2022 09:07

We've used ours a lot. Small discounts quickly add up.

20% KFC.
Cheaper cinema tickets.
I have boys so the 20% JD sports and 10% at sports direct had been great for trainers and tracksuits.

If you're making a big purchase it's even better, I got £25 off a ninja air fryer and 10% off a new Dyson. At Xmas I always use it for the big ticket items too.

iolaus · 21/05/2022 09:09

I've used it in Clogau (and they accept it in the outlet stores which are already discounted) - 15% off - so combined with their birthstone offer, plus outlet price and this my daughters 21st present was nearly 50% off

New Look is 20% off full price, peacocks, mountain warehouse as well

KFC, Bills

It is easier with the app, I just go for what I was going to buy then type store name in the app and see if it works

Ragged · 21/05/2022 09:10

When I worked for NHS I never found a reason to get a discount with my card(s), either.

None of the eligible venues are in my town; I don't go out much, anyway, I literally needed nothing relevant in that period, or the retailer (eg Asda) was very inconvenient.

Vursayles · 21/05/2022 09:13

Get the app, it’s easier than checking online. If you want or need something particular just search for retailers in the app to see who offers a discount. I’ve used my card loads and I’m pretty useless at that stuff in general. I think Asda are doing 10% off in store at the moment.

AnnaMagnani · 21/05/2022 09:17

If you are in London loads of places give NHS discounts - lots of the little coffee shops and so on. It's a big deal.

Thecatwokemeup · 21/05/2022 09:27

@Confuseddotcombo yeah you have to get in quick, as soon as the email comes through really.

ineedsun · 21/05/2022 09:30

My daughter gets discounts all over with hers, she asks everywhere.
