Covid in North Korea

I read tonight that N.Korea has a really bad bout of covid and very few there is vaccinated.

I am so worried for the people who live there (most of them it’s not their choice) and I just don’t know how long we can just ignore how fucking awful it is there.

They are treating people with herbal teas as they have no medicines. It’s insane! Is there anything we can do? These are already malnourished people who will die without proper medicines - it’s fucking mental a “country” is allowed to do this and we all sit back and say “aah well it’s North Korea”

It's north Korea and Kims problem. They don't want or need our help.

HermioneWeasley · 20/05/2022 22:08

What do you propose we do?

easyday · 20/05/2022 22:18

The government was offered vaccines and it declined.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 20/05/2022 22:21

North Korea, surely the world's largest living prison camp.

Goodness knows how that country survives anything.
It's so hopeless.

malificent7 · 20/05/2022 22:22

Sadly op there is very little we can do. It's a scandal.

TheKeatingFive · 20/05/2022 22:22

They've been offered vaccines and declined. I'm not sure what else could be done for them. Living under dictators is the pits, but what can we do?

hamdden12 · 20/05/2022 22:23

Given how secretive and private North Korea is I don't know how much we can believe from Western news outlets.

What do you suggest we do? Any interference will end up with more loss of life than covid inflicts and as harsh as it sounds the world's problems are not our responsibility when we've got enough going on here.

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/05/2022 22:27

The government there has been offered help and declined.

What do you think we should do? Invade them for their own good?

On a personal level, you can't force someone to accept help, the same goes for a country unfortunately.
I suspect that if they change their mind and accept help then it will be available very quickly.

Fluffruff · 20/05/2022 22:27

They’ve been offered vaccines via the Covax platform but apparently refused. China may now offer vaccines and might be better trusted by NK. They went for zero Covid but didn’t use the time to vaccinate as other countries did.

Neverendingdust · 20/05/2022 22:29

It could be a disaster for them but we’d likely never know the true scale because they are so closed off from the rest of the world.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/05/2022 22:30

Is there anything we can do?

Nothing whatsoever; it's called the hermit kingdom for a reason, and they've already refused offers of vaccines

Dreadful for the people of course, though they probably won't even know about their unfolding problems because they'll be hidden ... that's what happens when a madman's in charge
