My boss may have just made a pass at me

Okay, so this is awkward. My boss and I get on well and have worked together for a year. He is single and there is a palpable sexual tension between us which I can’t help but have always tried to keep things as professional as possible.

Tonight we went out for work drinks and took a taxi home together, we had all had a few to drink and as we got to his front door he leaned in to hug me goodbye and asked me to come in for a drink. It was clear what he meant (it is really hard to explain this but you know when someone has the intent of things going somewhere) What on earth do I do on Monday?

Are you single?

AlisonDonut · 20/05/2022 21:59

Pretend you don't think he asked you in for a shag?

And keep off the alcohol on works outings.

SeedyBloomer · 20/05/2022 22:01

Depends entirely on if you like him and, if so, if it would affect your job, otherwise, pretend it never happened.

FabFitFifties · 20/05/2022 22:04

I take it you are not single? If that's the case, forget about it and continue to be professional.

User7493268965 · 20/05/2022 22:05

Do you like him, are you single, if so nothing wrong, though it will probably be work policy that you can’t work for him, it was where I worked and people had to work for someone different if they were involved.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 20/05/2022 22:06

If you aren't single then I would be looking for another job, not because he made a pass as such, no woman should leave a job because a man made a pass, more that if there is a mutual attraction it'll make your working life difficult and it will absolutely end in tears.

holdthepineappleextracheese · 20/05/2022 22:22

Why were you at his front door?

C152 · 20/05/2022 22:23

Unless you want to immediately look for a new job, pretend it never happened. And don't get yourself into that situation again - don't drink too much around this guy and don't get in a taxi alone with him. Honestly, even if you're both currently single, getting into a relationship with your boss always reflects badly on the woman involved - whether the relationship works out or not. It's not right, but that's life.

Eightiesfan · 20/05/2022 22:24

Ignore it, you had both been drinking, nothing happened so let it go.

Nanny0gg · 20/05/2022 22:53

So there is 'palpable sexual tension' between you and you are trying to 'keep it professional' (clearly he isn't)

Then you go out for works drinks and share a taxi home.
What did you expect?
Is a relationship on the cards or are you in a relationship with someone else?

Cherrysoup · 20/05/2022 22:58

Ignore, be professional and crack on come Monday if you aren’t keen. Never shit where you eat.

PlasticineMeg · 20/05/2022 23:14

Pretend it didn’t happen and lay off the close calls in future.

Maybe he thinks you were hankering to come in seeing as you went all the way to the front door and hugged him?

SaintVal · 21/05/2022 07:51

If you shared a taxi together, why did you end up at his front door? Are you single? Is he? These things are important to know.

toastedcat · 21/05/2022 07:54

Yes, too much missing info here! If you're single and fancy him then I'd be thrilled about it 😉 especially that you didn't let him in so now you have the upper hand!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 21/05/2022 07:55

I'm assuming OP was still in the taxi when they got to his front door rather than actually being stood at his front door. It doesn't make sense otherwise!

If you're not single and are aware there's sexual tension between you then sharing a taxi home probably wasn't the best idea

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 21/05/2022 07:56

Also wondering why you were at his front door.

billy1966 · 21/05/2022 07:57

Never wise to mess where you eat.

Mally100 · 21/05/2022 07:58

Oh come on op. You know you wanted to go further with him, just wanted validation from this thread that he's single and to go for it. If you had any common sense you would know that your job should be your priority.
