I'm currently breastfeeding (7 months) and have big issues with blocked ducts. It seems to be my body that's the issue - latch is fine, taking lecithin daily, ibuprofen, ice packs, no alcohol, no caffeine. I am also trying to limit my sugar and saturated fat intake but I'm SO HUNGRY. I usually eat three fairly healthy meals and fill up on snacks, but I'm struggling to find suitable snacks which are filling and delicious. AIBU to suggest that they don't exist? Help!

Hard boiled eggs
plain popcorn
vege sticks with hummus or baba ganush
greek yoghurt with chia seeds and fruit mixed through
make your own ice lollies with yoghurt and fruit
smoothies

Flapjacks
Oatcakes and cheese
Bananas

If you're hungry, there's a good reason. Your baby is leeching calories from you. So keep feeding yourself.

Also, huge glass of water every time you sit down. Or milk. Or hot chocolate.

Toast & PB or Almond butter
Oatcakes and PB
Oatcakes and honey
Add chopped banana to the sbove
Houmous and pitta (the Food Doctor pittas are super filling and yum, only ever seen them in sainos and waitrose tho)
Homous and Tzatziki
Greek yog and a low sugar granola
Toasted crumpets
Tin of low sugar beans with some cheese grated on top
Plain nachos and some of that fresh smashed avo, not the crappy guacamole tho
Doves oat bars

Overnight oats
Porridge
Flapjacks loaded with dried fruit/seeds
Dried fruit and nuts
Yoghurt with fruit
Bananas
Rye bread
Apple slices with peanut butter
Crumpets
Pitta bread and hummus
Bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon

Really hungry now!!! Also breastfeeding. I just eat all the things 😂

HungryandIknowit · 20/05/2022 21:39

Thank you! Yes eating all the things is also my approach. Wish I could just take a bite out of the brie 😂

This will sound random as I know you asked about food, but what sort of nursing bras are you wearing? I had blocked ducts all the time with my eldest, it was awful and you really have my sympathy. I found that anything too tight (basically nursing bras with any structure at all, wearing a bag strap across my chest, feeding through gap in small nursing top) was enough to cause a blocked duct for me. No bra at all worked best but wasn't practical, so I got some that are really soft and stretchy, providing minimal support but made the problem much better. Nursing vests with a little built in support have also been ok. Doing this has really helped with babies 2 and 3 - we had DC3's christening recently, I wore a correctly sized nursing bra like a t-shirt bra with proper cups to try to make me look a bit less shapeless in the photos...and lo and behold, blocked duct. So I'm back to the shapeless but painless option!

HungryandIknowit · 21/05/2022 02:24

@Bloatstoat thank you but none! I had problems with them before so have just not bothered wearing one. I'm trying to avoid any pressure - sleeping on my back etc. It's a real pain hence the last resort of cutting down on two of my favourite things (saturated fat and sugar).

Oh no, food seems the only option then 🙁
One thing I started out making for my toddler but find us a useful snack are these pancake muffins - they're pretty low in sat fat (you can sub in low fat milk and unsaturated spread) - the recipes are mostly with fruit but I tend to do savoury with grated carrot or other veg:

Good luck with it all, hope it improves for you soon.
