i work in the public sector, we are getting a visit from a royal member. My manager and a few people are excited, others including me are indifferent. My manager has suggested that the women curtsy and the men bow. Most of the team have refused, including me. I will be happy to say hello but will absolutely not cursty/bow for anyone. In fact only 4 older people have agreed with her. Younger members of the team have said no. My manager thinks we are disrespectful. AIBU to refuse to curtsy.

I wouldn't bow and I certainly wouldn't curtsey.

YANBU, you don't have to bow to anyone. A handshake or polite hello are absolutely fine. I highly doubt a Royal Family member will notice or give a shit either, plenty of people don't do it.

I think you should faint from excitement.
