About a lease agreement - who pays for lawyer’s fee ?

Asking for my hardworking young friend .

She has just signed a two year lease on a small shop for her beauty business.

The landlord got a lawyer to draw up a legal lease document which both parties signed.

My friend was surprised to get a bill ( about £400) from the lawyer Via the landlord for the above. She had assumed the landlord was responsible.

Who is liable to pay the lawyer’s fee?

What does the lease say about it?

I can only compare to renewing lease for my flat but I was responsible for the landlord’s legal fees. I think this is usual.

@Fluval i don’t think the lease mentions it.
@kos88 thank you. Not sure where you live -new are in Scotland and a friend who works in domestic rentals says the landlord normally pays , but she didn’t know about commercial leases

Most leases, particularly one drafted by a lawyer, would mention it. It’s pretty typical of commercial leases for the tenant to be responsible for the landlord’s legal costs but, if the lease is silent, I’d expect everyone to bear their own costs.
