Lots of project properties seem to be popping up. It’s a got great transport links to London. Houses are not so mad expensive…

I don’t know the area at all, so can some of you shed a light on what is Gravesend like? Could it become the next fancy commuter town?

I don’t live there but have been to the town centre. It’s a shithole. Will need a hell of a of gentrification before it becomes even remotely desirable!

Its so bad that Pocahontas died there, rather than live in such a horrible place.

RunningFromInsanity · 15/05/2022 17:08

I grew up there and have great memories but these comments are spot on!

However the towns just outside aren’t too bad, Northfleet, Riverview etc are similar and have good links to London etc

Laughing at the previous responses but have to agree!

Yes, there is the odd lovely townhouse if you look hard enough and you do get a bit more for your money in terms of property. However, it's a very large, sprawly, messy town. Thousands of new build estates popping up left, right and centre if that's your thing. There are some nice (small) pockets, but overall it's a bit meh and there are some fairly large parts of it you would definitely want to avoid. Yes there are shops and lots of big supermarkets nearby but I personally wouldn't live there. It's also a very long way from ever becoming a fancy commuter town.

I'd be careful considering a move to North West Kent in general. So many houses being built, so much traffic which is set to increase. It's put real pressure on local services. Not the best quality of life which is why we got out as soon as we could. Yes there are great links to London but I've seen it change dramatically since I was younger and it's not somewhere we wanted to live in anymore.

Other nearby villages such as Higham, Shorne, Meopham are nicer but more expensive... And there is good reason for that! There are some beautiful lovely places in Kent to live but you will pay a higher price for this.

It’s awful. Just horrible. Looks depressing. Feels depressing. Rough.
i mean there are worse places in that part of the country (Tilbury for instance) but yeah. It’s grim.

Oh 😞 o thought I finally found a place that was affordable and with really good links to St Pancreas…
Sounds like it’s not the place to move to …

Could it become the next fancy commuter town?
Absolutely and categorically NO

MrsBertBibby · 15/05/2022 17:45

It's a shame, I worked there some years ago, and it could be a beautiful town, but it really is pretty grotty.

Plus grammar schools, like all of Kent and Medway.

The town centre is okay, the residential area is lovely.

I am LOLing at some of these comments. I live just outside Gravesend and avoid going into town at all costs. However, where I am is nice, it’s worth looking just outside of Gravesend - Ebbsfleet is nice.
