Cold sores

Hi all

My DS who is 5m old - almost 5 Has chicken pox passed on by his brother.. anyway. Yesterday my cousin popped over and was holding the baby. I was making coffee and she was kissing his head and hands ( not face )

She is quite tanned so I didn't notice but she had a massive cold sore. I asked her why on Earth would she kiss the baby with that and she got quite offended by that saying it was just his fingers & top of the head she kissed.

I'm fuming with her.

Anyway what if he caught it now what if he put his fingers in his mouth then eyes etc .. we won't even know if he's caught it as he's covered in chicken pox around his mouth.

What should I do? I bet the gp won't do anything as we don't know for sure if he's got it

I would be furious. I know a few people with cold sores and their nonchalant attitude towards it annoys me. I appreciate they can't help having them but don't put others at risk. One of my good friends who has then knows my views, she has a thing about trying my drink when we go out together and gets offended when I say no. Did you clean dc hands? It's just a case of keeping an eye on him fingers crossed he's ok.

I would be so angry too. I get cold sores and if I have a outbreak or suspect one coming I am always extra careful to not risk spreading them to others. I would hope that is the norm...To kiss a baby during an outbreak is awful.

And to the poster above I would refuse to let friend try drink at any point going forward. Cold sores are contagious before they are visible and she clearly doesn't take it seriously so you wouldn't know if she possibly has one coming.
