To ask if anyone has travelled to the United States recently?

I’m most likely to travel by BA to California…I understand that I need to test before travelling within 24hrs. But I can’t find any information on wherever it can be an antigen or does it have to be a PCR?

anyone any definite recent experience/knowledge on this?

also how is the whole Covid situation in the States?

I’m triple jabbed so I am guessing my NHS is good enough of proof of vaccination?

Just an LFT. We used DocHQ. They often have a discount code.

butterflyfox · 14/05/2022 21:41

Antigen is fine but it must be supervised (online is fine). And the day before. Not 24 hours before. Any time the day before you fly.

PomRuns · 14/05/2022 21:41

Oh and you upload your vaccine certs and proof of negative test to verify. The link is on the BA site.

Smarshian · 14/05/2022 21:43

What @butterflyfox said. Must be supervised (this can be via zoom or in person), and must be the day before, I understood within 24 hours of flight but may be wrong on that. We have just been to Chicago.

NeedASolution · 14/05/2022 21:46

I'm recently back. You need to do a supervised LFT that you can book easily online. I used Quared.

Please also see my thread below and don't do what I did re. the vaccine passport!!

Antigen test is fine.

As to his the situation is here, it varies from state to state. Each state is responsible for their own rules on COVID measures. Unfortunately for you you are going to California which had some of the most draconian rules of all (and some are still in place in certain counties). Check the public health department website of the county you are going to get the latest info. Good luck.

MozerellaSalad · 14/05/2022 21:58

We did ours at Boots- results within 20 minutes and about £25.

Dani0o0 · 14/05/2022 21:59

Thanks everyone, I look at the companies suggested for testing

thanks for the heads-up about the Covid pass @NeedASolution I’ll look into that too !

feeling very nervous about this trip (not because of Covid reasons) but want to iron everything out in good time before going as I don’t want this to add additional stress to this trip

Just back from LA this weekend, lateral flow is fine day before you leave. Nobody asked to see our certs and we didn't do verifly as it wouldn't work on our phones. We just did the US attestation online form. LA was pretty relaxed, kind of like it was here 6 months ago or so. Maybe 10/15% still wearing masks, like here few months back. We were only asked to wear our masks once on the LAX terminal shuttle bus.

Log into the NHS website/app and download a vaccination certificate.

You'll also need a LFT within 24hrs of departure. I did a drop-in one, was really quick and easy. (And it's 24hrs of departure of the first flight if you have a connecting flight)

My paperwork was checked at the airline desk at Heathrow. Even though I had all the LFT paperwork/certification, they also asked me to do the US attestation form which I was able to do on my phone, (but easier to do it on a computer at home)

TuTuLemon · 14/05/2022 22:15

Flew with BA to NYC recently. Did our supervised antigen with Qured the day before, super easy and had results within 10 minutes. Then download the verifly app and it takes you through all the steps to fly, you upload your test result, vaccine docs (QR code/screenshot from nhs app) and fill in the attestation form.

Quartz2208 · 14/05/2022 22:17

I have been to the US twice and used breathe assured and found them really good - on time and certificate through easily.

FlowerArranger · 14/05/2022 22:23

The antigen test/LFT needs to be done at any time on the day before departure - NOT within 24 hours.

Theoscargoesto · 14/05/2022 22:59

Just to add, take paper copies of your vaccination details as well as having the downloaded version on your phone. My details were checked everywhere I went in New York and they needed the paper copies.

You are no longer required to be vaccinated to get in everywhere in NY, they dropped the mandate around mid March Smile. Obviously places can still request it but the only place we were asked was Starbucks and they accepted our actual vaccine cards (we did have covid passes screenshotted on our phones just in case).

OP have a look at the Tripadvisor forum for where you are going and that will hopefully have up to date info on the specific COVID rules.

ElevenOG · 15/05/2022 06:03

Another one here who used Qured. Only one place asked for proof of vaccination (a gin bar) and the NHS app worked fine but also take a screenshot just in case. Have a good trip!
