I know I know, wrong place but I need help fast.
Maxed out on ibuprofen and paracetomol (switched to cocodomol this morning). Got nothing left for 5 hours. In agony. The regime did bugger all anyway except dull a little for an hour.
Rang dentist 9am, no appts til tomorrow. Explained urgency. Told nope.
Rang again at 3.30 as now in worse pain with no analgesia options left. Told still can't help, ding emergency dentist.
Emergency dentist have no appts til tomorrow either and offered no other solution.
Have asked GP for pain relief. Not had any response yet and I'm climbing the walls. Can barely see to type this, so hoping for the best with autocorrect.
Help. What the fuck do I do? I can't cope like this.

Forgot to add, it's yemp filling that is coming away. Needs root canal but can't be done in nhs as can't numb me. Can't afford private. So stuck with having temp filling after temp filling when it flares up.

111, they gave me antibiotics over the phone for my tooth yesterday

DashboardConfessional · 12/05/2022 16:41

I would also try 111.

So

Go to pharmacy and get Clove oil - tastes foul but numbs the area for a short while. Ice pack can help sometimes.

YellowFlowersGreenStems · 12/05/2022 16:46

Oragel max strength is my go to.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/05/2022 16:47

Done clove oil, Ice, hot water bottle, salt water, corsadyl. Nothing.
Prob don't need abx as it's an exposed root as far as I know that is causing the pain

You’re not stuck having temp fillings. If the tooth needs a root canal and you can’t do it/get one, the usual option is to do an extraction.

Pattygonia · 12/05/2022 16:50

Would echo pp suggestion of oragel max strength - it's a tiny little tube but it really works

Pattygonia · 12/05/2022 16:51

Oragel max is 20% strength benzocaine - which is why it's so effective!

SlashBeef · 12/05/2022 16:53

Get it out!

NotAScoobyToBeSeen · 12/05/2022 16:58

Will the root canal ever be able to be done or is it a temporary issue? If this is going to keep happening then I would definitely have the tooth removed, and get a false one if it's at the front then down the road. I wouldnt keep going through this tbh

If you don’t have to go anywhere, gulf of the strongest spirit you have in the house. Don’t swallow but hold in your mouth around the affected tooth. For as long as physically possible. It’ll start to burn but it numbs the pain for a short while. I agree with asking for an extraction if you can’t get it root canaled

I ended up getting tramadol prescribed from the GP around 6 last night. It did absolutely nothing other than make me feel off my face (not a feeling I like, I don't even drink alcohol!) I rang the emergency dental line again and was given a call back from the dental nurse at 7.30pm. She advised my only option was a&e for analgesia - that's where I ended up. They were lovely, saw me quickly and really helped. They asked what pain relief I wanted and gave it to me plus a prescription for some more plus oral abx. PR volterol was what I asked for. Sorted the pain within 30 mins. I'd had it before years ago for a similar reason and it worked then, as it has now.
Unfortunately turns out it was an abscess. My face had ballooned when I woke this morning. Emergency dentist gave me different abx, and some great advice to get my root canal done under sedation for free at the dental hospital. So all in all, a good appt! I'm not in any pain in my tooth now. Just my face is very tender, but I can cope with that. The tooth throbbing was absolutely unbearable. So I really hope it doesn't return. I've got some more Volterol too just in case.
How ridiculous that I had to go to a&e though. There should be better systems in place for this kind of thing.
