What's with Specsavers and masks ?

Semi lighthearted, but what is it with Specsavers and masks still ?
I was told over the phone earlier in the week that it's not compulsory to wear a mask in their shops anymore. I want some new specs and have been holding off until this was the case as I really want to see what my whole face looks like when trying on glasses.

I went to the shop today and wasn't allowed in unless I wore a mask. Do you have an exemption I was asked, we are NHS so you have to wear a mask. (They aren't NHS they're a private business that offers some NHS services but I digress).

Then box of masks and hand gel shoved my way. I was told I could pull the mask down to try on glasses, which begs the question why bother wearing one then ?

Didn't want to be that person arguing at the door so I left and went to another opticians.

AIBU to think they should have let me in without a mask ?

To be fair I walked out of Bobbi brown at the weekend as was told to leave everything I touched at the side so they could sanitise it.

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 07:19

If anyone disagrees with @Innocenta you’re either misapplying terms, using buzzwords or in need of a psychiatric assessment. She absolutely IS right too because she has a double first from Oxford. 🤦‍♀️

No need to give up on me, your posts are ridiculous. I’ve already given up on you.

Roselilly36 · 12/05/2022 07:23

I agree totally ridiculous, Specsavers do tend to cosy up to Govs demands though. Vote with your feet.

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 07:33

@whereareyousleep

That is interesting regarding why they are forcing people to stand outside of the shop. A long queue of elderly people is a ridiculous site to see in the middle of winter. Perhaps they just haven’t got the capacity anymore and they’re forcing people to look elsewhere. Well whatever it is it’s working.

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 07:34

@JollyWilloughby I'm sorry you still can't understand despite me having written an explanation! No need to resort to ad hominem. Smile

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 07:50

@Innocenta

Ahh I see so if we disagree we have something else to add to the list. We simply just do not understand, are misapplying terms, using buzzwords or do indeed need a psychiatric assessment. The latter being poor form in respects to mocking somebody else’s opinion, sardonic or not. Which I must say was quite a convenient term to use after you had been so ridiculous.
😊.

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 07:53

The fact is, @JollyWilloughby - it's clearly apparent that my response to Oblomov was sardonic. The reason you're obsessing over this and tying yourself in knots is because you erroneously thought it was meant literally. That was silly of you! But it's not the end of the world; misreading is easy to do online. Just get over it, because you're embarrassing yourself.

YesitsJacqueline · 12/05/2022 07:53

I got sick of being barked at by a teenager in full PPE full of their own importance, that's before they even let me cross the threshold
Swapped to a family run independent optician and the quality of service is incomparable

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 07:55

@Innocenta

No, no it wasn’t me who embarrassed myself….. double first from Oxford springs to mind 😂.

Like I said keep back peddling its rather amusing……

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 07:57

@JollyWilloughby You took a sarcastic post literally and have been moaning about it ever since. The mistake isn't the embarrassing bit, it's the ridiculous overreaction that I'm referring to. Wink

MiniatureHotdog · 12/05/2022 08:01

Ridiculous. I don't own any masks anymore and don't wear them. The very few places where staff are wearing them I've not been questioned. You can catch covid anywhere it's here to stay, so what is the point is 95% of your week going about your business not wearing one and then wear one in specsavers to try on glasses. Silly.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/05/2022 08:03

I will wear a mask if asked but I know longer use the crappy hand sanitiser. If asked I pretend to use it and just rub my hands together.

My local Specsavers still asked people to wait outside last time I went but there was no one on the door so I ignored the sign and walked in. No one said a word and I don't think I'm banned!

@MiniatureHotdog Because CV and elderly people have to go to certain public spaces. Why would you want to put others at greater risk? Seems kind of weird to me.

Because some of us are only going to essential places like doctors, hospital, eye tests
I can avoid food shopping in store, clothes shopping, bars etc but I can't avoid hospital appointments and eye tests

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 08:06

Ahh right….. another to add to the list. So if anyone on this thread disagrees with you they are:
overreacting,
misunderstanding entirely/using ad hominem,
misapplying terms,
using buzzwords,
In need of seeing a psychiatrist,
Have an inability to understand the word sardonic (in other words convenient back peddling),

You then to proceed to tell ME I’m the one who is embarrassing myself after letting us all know you have a double first from Oxford. 😂

You’re quite the mumsnet treat aren’t you? 😊.

MiniatureHotdog · 12/05/2022 08:09

also, I literally have a double first from Oxford so I think I am educated. But thank you for your concern!

😂😂😂😂 This is hilarious! My pre teen DC shove the word "literally" in front of everything they say too 😅😅 I'm not sure there's such a thing as a non-literal degree??

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 08:10

@JollyWilloughby Once again, all of this bother stems from you misreading a post of mine. I'm not sure why you're so exercised about it, but it's both strange and cringey.

Do you have a problem with educated women, I have to ask myself. It certainly seems to stick in your craw that I corrected someone who insulted me by calling me uneducated!

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 08:10

@MiniatureHotdog

I have to admit it was the word “literally” that had me 😂😂😂😂.

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 08:11

@MiniatureHotdog Sorry you dislike the word 'literally'. I can assure you not all CV and elderly people use it! So not a great justification for placing others at increased risk...

Bretonbear · 12/05/2022 08:12

I literally have GCSEs and A Levels but as I don't literally have a double first from Oxford my level of opinion and argument is not worthy. I apologise for being so thick. I'll get myself logged on to a forum for GCSE level only 😀

MiniatureHotdog · 12/05/2022 08:12

But on the CEV issue, are people honestly saying they'll live like that forever, and expect the rest of society to live with restrictions forever, over a virus that is here to stay and now we have vaccines and milder varients isn't even the threat it once was?

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 08:13

@Bretonbear No thoughts on why you want to put other people at risk of infection...?

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 08:15

@MiniatureHotdog If it's not a threat, why are individual consultants telling some specific people to continue to shield?

I agree that maintaining the full restrictions from early in the pandemic would be unfair. But asking people to wear masks in a tiny number of places where CV people have to go, like medical settings, is a really small thing.

JollyWilloughby · 12/05/2022 08:16

@Bretonbear

😂 I literally only have one degree and definitely not a double. I’m sure someone will be along soon to tell you why you’re so incredibly misinformed at literally everything! This is hilarious.

MiniatureHotdog · 12/05/2022 08:17

But you can have as many degrees as you like but they only cover their subject matter, it doesn't mean that same person can't be uneducated about certain topics?

In terms of qualifications I'm educated, but I know very little about lots of things (eg my knowledge of South American history is very limited, so I'm certainly uneducated on that front and it would be true for someone to call me that, literally).
