To report him to the police

Was recently involved in an incident where my friend was arrested for drink driving. At the station, I was made aware that his license had actually expired. Now, it’s also suspended. Less than twenty four hours later, he has rear ended someone, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage, and narrowly escaping hurting himself and/or others AGAIN! I’m not clear on what the owner of the other vehicle intends, but in the event that the police are not involved, would I be unreasonable to call them myself to say he’s continuing to drive unlicensed - and obviously still recklessly?!

YANBU to report him if you think he's a danger. YABU to carry on being friends with this idiot, though.

MessedOfTimes · 11/05/2022 13:50

Thank you. I totally agree on your second point too.

I would absolutely report him and I would never, ever associate with him again.

Aimee1987 · 11/05/2022 13:55

Agree with others report and distance yourself

@MessedOfTimes
I'm so sorry your friend has put you in this awkward situation. Flowers
Yes, please do report him if you become aware that he is driving at all and especially now that he has been in another crash...he's proven that he cannot handle the responsibility of driving. Driving is a privilege not a right...and when he does eventually cause a fatal auto crash he is going to either be charged with vehicular manslaughter if not murder.( I'm in the US not sure about your location) You will not only be saving his life, but also the life of an innocent bystander.

Report him

MessedOfTimes · 11/05/2022 14:05

Thank you for that considered and kind response. I agree with you entirely, and you’ve delivered the message so sensitively. His own godmother/Aunt was killed by a driver as she was walking across a road. He, of all people, should know better. I feel less crazy now.

And thank you to other posters too. It means a lot to me right now x

@MessedOfTimes
You are very welcome.
You taking a stand may be the catalyst that he needs for him to realise his life is a mess and he will finally get help for his alcoholism.Flowers

Report him before he maims or kills someone. What an idiot ( him, not you)

Alcibiade · 11/05/2022 16:54

Report him. You might just be saving someone else's life by doing so.

MessedOfTimes · 12/05/2022 08:56

Thank you, everyone. I’m going to have to do it x
