Apologises if not the right place… but are these likely to be chicken pox?

Only just noticed these 3 spots on child’s stomach… she doesn’t seem unwell and it’s only these 3 nowhere else and they are not itchy.

how likely are these to be the start of chicken pox and do I need to keep her off school until a GP checks them just incase they are not?

Really hard to tell as photo isn’t great quality but they do look like chicken pox. Small red spots with clear fluid? There’ll be more tomorrow if it is chicken pox

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 10/05/2022 19:27

I think so, has it been going round? Keep an eye out , it will soon be obvious.

monkeyted · 10/05/2022 19:29

Looks like it could be. Both my DC started just like this, and not unwell for the first day or two. Took over 24 hours before they got more; then they suddenly developed lots more very quickly. There’s a lot of pox around at the moment. You will likely notice the spots progress or there will be some more by tomorrow morning if they are.

SummerHouse · 10/05/2022 19:29

They tend to come out quickly so likely DC will have more soon if it is pox.

Mapletreelane · 10/05/2022 19:30

Chicken pox is rife at the moment (well known for being a spring virus) so there is a good chance it is. The spots don't get itchy until they become more blister like. Best place for advice on staying off, treatment etc is NHS website. Hope she's ok.

Atinytrolley · 10/05/2022 19:38

Hard to tell from photo but could be, often first spots are on the stomach. My DS has just had it and wasn't unwell for the first day or two. It's rife at the moment. Spots come out quite quickly so you'll know by morning...

tokyotea · 10/05/2022 19:47

Mine had just the 3 spots Friday morning and I'm so glad I made the decision to keep him home. They quickly spread by the evening and progressively got worse over a day or two. So it will soon be quite clear if they are. There's a massive outbreak of it around here in nurseries and schools at the moment.

NetflixMom21 · 10/05/2022 19:51

Just tried to take a better photo… I know that her class had it a few months ago but she was one of the ones that didn’t come down with it at the time… I’ll see if anymore come up in the morning, thank you everyone! 💐

They do look like the potential start of chicken pox. You will know for certain by the morning!

Unanananana · 10/05/2022 20:16

Looks like it could be. You will know in the morning as she will likely wake up covered.

Virasoothe gel and calpol are sanity savers!

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 10/05/2022 20:18

Looks likely. You'll know for sure by morning.
Highly recommend Poxcillin if so.

WhatNowwwww · 10/05/2022 20:27

The GP won’t want you to take them to the surgery if at all avoidable. CP can be really dangerous for the immune suppressed, so they won’t want DC in the waiting room etc. If DC become very unwell they generally arrange for you to enter the surgery through a separate door etc.

chubbachub · 10/05/2022 21:30

It looks like CP. my 3 have all just had it.

Virasoothe was shit but Poxclin did the trick. And calpol/piriton.

gothereagain · 10/05/2022 21:44

Yes, that looks like the start. You'll know by the morning.

DS had 3 in the evening, and was absolutely covered by the morning.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/05/2022 22:10

As others day, you'll know by morning.

Bicarb of soda (full tub of the stuff you get for baking) is a luke warm bath really helps with the utching.

No Ibruprofen as it can make symptoms worse, cause skin infections.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 10/05/2022 22:17

You'll definitely know by morning. Please don't bother the GP with it though if it is. They can't do anything about it (unless they react badly or get infected obviously!)

NetflixMom21 · 11/05/2022 09:26

No more spots this morning…

OP posts:
NetflixMom21 · 11/05/2022 18:57

2 more spots today… surely if it was chicken pox she would be covered by now?

Did these progress anymore? We are similar situation. There has been a confirmed case at nursery and Wednesday night my toddler had snotty nose and cough and I notice a couple of really small red dots on back and 2 on chest. But tiny pimples and not like how I thought cp to look. I read online ‘you will know by the morning’ and nothing more came in the morning nor did they scab so I assumed blemishes and I was just being paranoid because I heard cp was going around. It’s now Saturday morning and still only a handful of little spots but the nursery said yesterday chicken spots could just be super mild and some children only get a few! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

TheBolterdahling · 14/05/2022 06:57

They could be molluscum
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molluscum_contagiosum

ClinkeyMonkey · 14/05/2022 07:12

DS1 had chickenpox when he was 4 and only had a handful of spots. A couple of days later, I found a few spots (I was 45 btw!!) I began to doubt that they were chickenpox at all - although it was doing the rounds - but when our spots had almost cleared up, DS2 broke out in gazillions of the things! Poor wee thing, he was only 6 months old. So, it seems that some people don't get very many spots.

Wallywobbles · 14/05/2022 08:39

DD1 had 20 spots. DD2 had 2000. Eyes, ears, internally. Everywhere.

NetflixMom21 · 14/05/2022 08:46

So it’s been a bit of a weird one - she did end up getting a couple more spots and a bit of a fever but now the ones she had in the beginning have now started to fade - no blistering or crusting etc - so I’m thinking it’s more likely to be viral and our doctor did mention molluscum… I have now come out in similar spots so I don’t know if I’ve caught molluscum from her or something 😅 so yeah I have no idea what she’s actually got!
