To be utterly frustrated with how slow this is

I am buying a house - one of the loathed new builds, but its what we can afford and where we want to live. We signed the paperwork back in October, and we are STILL waiting for a completion date! The houses are all built but apparently there are issues with getting utilities connected...and the land transferred (?).

I'm sure it all cant be helped but my god its slow. I sold my old house in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, and it only took four and a half months from sale agreed to completion! The rented house where we live now is perfectly nice, but I want MY house! AIBU to rant about it endlessly and send grumpy emails to the estate agents every week?

And the land transferred ?
that sounds odd
what does your solicitor say

PonyPatter44 · 10/05/2022 14:51

I think its something to do with being a new build - its shared ownership as well, which adds a further layer of complexity, but surely not this much.

My solicitor is...elusive, is probably the most polite way to phrase it. I am sure he will come barrelling back into constant contact the instant monies are due, though.

My sil is buying an exsisting house and its been ongoing for months as well

Mine is now dragging - but due to getting hold of specialist surveyors. Does shared ownership and rental agreements factor into your delays?

Ilikewinter · 10/05/2022 16:11

Well my DM is selling her shared ownership to FTB and no onward chain....so far its taken just shy of 6 months...the delays are all down to the housing association (Shared ownership part), its an absolute joke, I sincerely hope you dont ever want to sell you home OP !

Sadly I can't afford anything else, its this or rent forever. We have a good deposit, so the mortgage bit is really affordable and the rent element is not high.

I don't know if the rental agreements are causing a problem. It seems to be more if a problem with actually getting the blasted house as far as exchange!

I certainly hope it works out for you
