To think this waiting time is ridiculous

I had an MRI on Sunday and was told I'd be sent details of an appointment to get the results.

Letter arrived today and the appointment is on........23rd February 2023!!

MRI was of my head- I can't even take solice from the fact that giving me an appointment 10 months away is good news because the letter was posted before they will have had the results of the scan!

I was given the scan after seeing a consultant 3 weeks ago so she thought it urgent enough to schedule an expensive diagnostic procedure.

Seems madness to me. I will call to check if it's a mistake.

Must be an admin error surely!

Did you call and ask? It must be a error that's madness!

Call and check, that’s a daft time.

I was referred for an assessment and, following instructions, I booked the first available appointment - many months away. A few days later, I was contacted by the service and told that I needed to be seen much sooner and was given an appointment for the following week. Maybe a human needs to oversee the computer!

What's it for? I had an MRI recently due to suspected cancer (thankfully was clear). I only waiting 2 days but I was being seen on the 2 week urgent pathway. I was told 2 weeks and they called quicker due to cancellations. You should contact your consultant if it is urgent.

I'd give them a ring. Is it possible it will get triaged and they'll bring it forward if needed?

bluevioletsky · 10/05/2022 13:48

It will just be the next routinely available appt you've been sent for now. When the results come back, if something needs sorted sooner, you will be contacted.
I had similar last year (6month follow up appt sent out after CT scan that was looking for cancer) but when the results came through (not cancer but something that did need sorted) I was seen and sorted out way before the original appt.

Generally speaking it takes 2-4 weeks for scan reports to be done, so maybe give the secretary a ring after a couple of weeks to see if your consultant has the report back yet. Hope it all goes ok.

I am assuming it's a mistake - computer generated. All lines busy now but I'll try again later.

I've been trying to get through to my local MRI unit for 2 months, the phone is either busy or unanswered.
