Is this a bedbug or a random insect

Found this insect after I washed clothes, left them on line to dry outside in sun and brought inside and was about to iron. It fell out from one of the shirts. Is this a bed bug? Currently freaking out

That looks very much like a bedbug to me, I'm afraid

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 10/05/2022 13:24

Looks like a bedbug. Have any of your family been getting bitten or coming up with an unexplained rash?

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 10/05/2022 13:27

Does look like a bedbug sadly.

Do you have black/brown spots and or smudges of blood on bedding or mattresses? Take the sheets off and especially look at seams/binding and where handles are sewn on.

Myhamsteratemyjammydoger · 10/05/2022 13:29

You need to put a coin next to it for size and take a better picture then we can tell you.

Mac9999 · 10/05/2022 13:31

What size is it? Bed bugs are about 5mm (half a centimetre).

There isn’t anything to help us tell the scale of the insect in your photo - but it looks like it might be a lot bigger.

I suspect it is a beetle from outside.

Yes this. At first glance it's the wrong shape for a bed bug. I have seen similar insects around on my washing before. Was it dead or alive? Had it been through the way it'd be dead. More likely landed there from the garden

JS87 · 10/05/2022 13:32

Pictures on google of bedbugs suggest that they have a pointier bottom end than the bug in this picture.

2022sucksalready · 10/05/2022 13:32

I don’t think so. It’s antennae look totally wrong. It would help to know what size it is.

It’s far more likely to be a bug that settled on the clothes to catch some zzzs in the sun while it was hanging outside.

Shaambaalaa · 10/05/2022 13:33

It doesn’t look like a bed bug at all. It’s just a beetle from the garden.

Working9to5ish · 10/05/2022 13:35

It's a beetle, bedbugs are v flat.

TheBoots · 10/05/2022 13:35

Not a bedbug. Beetle from the garden.

Mandodari · 10/05/2022 13:37

Looks like a beetle.

PBJTime · 10/05/2022 13:39

To big for a bed bug. Smile

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 10/05/2022 13:39

Bedbugs aren't flat when they're full of blood . . .

Parky04 · 10/05/2022 13:40

Definitely not a bed bug. We had an infestation about 5 years ago!

Takeitslow123 · 10/05/2022 13:41

Surely if the washing as hanging outside it is far more likely to be an insect from the garden?

nearlyspringyay · 10/05/2022 13:41

Looks too big, can you post a photo with something next to it for scale?

hairypaws · 10/05/2022 13:51

Looks like a dermested beetle or similar. Chuck it outside, completely harmless.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 10/05/2022 13:57

Not a bedbug. See the sticky out bits sort of between its abdomen and thorax? Bedbugs don’t have that. Some sort of shield bug maybe.

OneTC · 10/05/2022 14:00

Flour beetle imo

sashagabadon · 10/05/2022 14:05

Agree that’s not a bed bug. They are tiddly tiny. Looks like a beetle to me.

Squillerman · 10/05/2022 14:07

Why would a live bed bug be on freshly washed items you hung outside on the line? It’s obviously some sort of beetle from the garden.

I think so too, it'll have settled while the sheets are on the line.

MrsNT · 10/05/2022 18:11

So havent seen any spots or signs on bedding. Not got any bite marks or rashes on skin either. Husband is convinced its a beetle from garden that hopped on but I had my doubts. Reading all the msgs I think safe to say it is a beetle rather than a bed bug
Thanks for the help
