Not sure if I've worded the title correctly. I'm talking about men who talk down to and bully women they don't know on a day to day basis. Basically men who talk to women aggressively in a way they would never do to another man or if a man was present.
I've just had an unpleasant encounter with a man I don't know as I was driving. I live near a single track lane with passing places and I drive down there to take DC to nursery. Was just going down there and two cars were parked alongside each other blocking the road. A man and woman were standing outside their cars chatting. I waited a minute then did a very quick pip on my horn to let them know I was waiting as I didn't know if they'd seen me, neither acknowledged me. After another two minutes I drove towards them from the passing place I was waiting and wound down my window and said "please can I just get past?"
The woman gestured apologetically and said she was looking for somewhere. I asked where and the man went "she won't know!" He then looked really angry and aggressive and said "she's trying to find an older woman to help her ok!" (As if I were to know or they had even politely asked me to wait.) I was shocked and just said ok. I moved back to the passing place and then the woman drove past and apologised but the man sped off glaring at me.
I know it sounds like nothing but it shook me up. I was having a normal morning and these aggressive encounters unsettle me especially when I have DC in the car listening.
AIBU to think he wouldn't have spoken to me like that if I was a man or if I had a man sitting alongside me?
