AIBU to think that prices for a holiday to Turkey have gone up drastically? I just feel that the average booking (flights and hotels) is around £800PP. Used to be around £500!

Is it just me?

No idea, but if it has, how is it a shock? Airlines and hotels lost out on huge amounts of money during the pandemic. The cost of fuel for the flights and for running the hotel will have increased due to the war in Ukraine.

In fact, I'd be surprised if the cost hadn't gone up.

I read this morning that inflation is at 70% in turkey so wont even be "cheap" when you get there

We have an AI booked for over a year now have seen same holiday for sale for £2k over what we've paid definitely crazy prices

Parpophone · 09/05/2022 13:57

Well they clearly have gone up massively so why do you think you are being unreasonable? Surely it is just basic counting.

I'm going in a couple of weeks and am payng virtually the same as i did pre-pandemic so no, I don't think that prices have increased drastically.

It's the flights that have skyrocketed. We paid a deposit on a hotel before Christmas with the intention of buying our flights nearer the time and have been watching with horror as the flights have gone up almost consistently week on week - only a few pounds each time but family of 4 it's now nearly £2k for very anti-social flight times whereas it was around £1200 when we booked the hotel. It's going to be cheaper for us to forfeit a deposit and completely rebook somewhere else at this rate.

Yes I am with you OP, ours is looking at 2k more than pre pandemic

Iamclearlyamug · 09/05/2022 14:16

Yeah the cost of living in Turkey has risen enormously and inflation is at an all time high as a previous poster said. Prices will be going up across the board - a new tax on alcohol is coming in shortly I believe too. I'm flying out there in 13 days having not been for almost 2 years and interested to see what it'll be like!

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 09/05/2022 14:25

I still find booking flights and accommodation separately cheaper, so you could look at that.

Or go elsewhere? We're off to Madeira for 8 days, flights and apartment under £500 a head. Croatia is also cheapish.

bobbingalongside · 09/05/2022 14:29

Have a look at Tunisia OP. Really cheap

My Turkish friend told me that the hotel owners need to make up the money they've lost from the pandemic. They don't get benefits and stuff out there like we did. Just think how lucky we are to still have holidays and they're so reliant on the tourist industry just to eat and pay rent! (Not trying to make you feel bad or anything, I just feel so much for my friends out there).
