To hate new builds?

This will likely be controversial, but my brother and his partner moved into a new build and now my parents are also moving into one.

I find there is something soulless about them.

The one my parents are moving into is in the process of being built and so they’ve put an offer in and been accepted, even though they’ve never seen it, only the plans.

Our house is Victorian and although it does have some problems with damp and insulation, I loved the character as soon as we walked in.
My in laws house is around 500 years old, it’s an old farmhouse and it has so much charm and character.

I know it’s each to their own, but I just feel like they’re uninviting, like Lego houses and like a hotel or something.

Lots of dickish responses on yet another thread where some poster seem unable to grasp that a difference in preference is not some sort of failing to be sneered at!

@AmberLynn1536 many apologies, I misread.

These are two new builds, I'd rather live in these than the old builds that are identical in appearance - apart from the fact their energy rating will be A+, devoid of drafts, damp, rotten windows, poor insulation and leaky roof.

Actually on the image of rhe house I was just making a point and honestly @AmberLynn1536 is likely closer. The point was it’s subjective.

im not sure though that I agree with @StoneofDestiny that all old houses have rotten windows leaky roofs drafts and damp. Poorly maintained one’s sure, but it’s not typical folks live like that. I am in a period property and have none of these issues, genuinely.

I’ve lived in both, on balance I prefer character but as said have seen some lovely new builds and my friends inside is gorgeous.

So my opinions aren’t as strong either way as sone folks on here, who seem to hate one or the other.

To be fair, those are very unusual new builds. Where I am, you would have got 3-4 houses on that plot with half the depth of that drive way (if one at all) and with out any interesting features such as bay windows on the plain frontage.
