Hello everyone I am new here. Sorry my English is not perfect but I will try my best so everyone can understand me.

I am a single mother of three girls aged 12,10 and 7 my youngest daughter see her father every Fri after school until Sunday afternoon and this has been perfect for 4 years since we had separated even though he doesn't pay for child maintainace but I am happy they both have the greatest relationship ever.

My daughter has 4c coarse hair which is hard to managed and she doesn't like her hair to be touched we are black and 4c hair is hard to manage it has come to the point of me threatening to cut her hair in January because I was tired and sad seeing her crying when I am braiding her hair which I tought she would refused but was suprised that she accepted but I refused to cut it because I was scared she might be bullied at school for having short hair and I have been paying someone to make her hair but she is still crying non stop and the lady said she will not make her hair again . She kept begging me with tears to cut it because it was painful. I have had bought all the hair products in the world but none of them have worked for us and the only option we had was using a relaxer which is a big no for me.
After so much pleaded from her I have decided to cut her hair during the Easter holidays which she was happy to be free no more tears and she went back to school on the 19th she seems very happy rocking her hair.

Her father couldn't have her for the easter holidays and after Easter because he traveled to his home country for a couple of weeks and he had her last week Friday until bank Holiday Monday and she came back in tears begging me to make her hair long again.
I asked her why she said her dad said I am evil I have made her looking ugly with short hair and I was shocked for a father to called his own daughter ugly if he didn't like her being on low-cut he should have at least spoke to me instead of directly telling her and calling her ugly and I called him back but he refused. I left him a angry message after he called back shouting at me that I have no right to cut her hair that I should grow her hair before he see her again on Friday which is today. He was very nasty to me threatening to report me for child abuse and I blocked him.

Well I have tried so hard to assured her she is the most beautiful princess in the world and long hair or not she is still beautiful and we went shopping for all these beautiful hair accessories which is she so happy and back to the happiest girl she is always been. She hadn't had any contact with her father again and he is been texting me with a different number asking to have her today which I have ignored him. I don't want her to visit him again when he will be calling her ugly again and I don't want her being upset her like last time. I think stopping contact is the best thing I can do for now and I want you to help me with your advice if what I am doing is the right thing or not.

I think you've made the right decision with her hair. If she wants it short and there's less angst in her life, it's absolutely the right thing to do and I'm sure it's absolutely beautiful on her. It was obviously a hard choice for you but you definitely considered carefully the preferences and wellbeing of your daughter.

If her father can't maintain a respectful relationship with her, I think maybe you're right to let him have a think about how we speak in an appropriate way to our children. What he said to her is not acceptable.

"I should grow her hair before he see her again on Friday"
Does he think you have power over the speed hair grows???

A good father does not tell a child they look ugly.

Her dad's an asshole. There's no doubt about that but

it has come to the point of me threatening to cut her hair in January because I was tired and sad seeing her crying when I am braiding her hair

This is where you were absolutely unreasonable. Do NOT ever threaten a child about their hair.
