I started a new job about 3 months' ago. I'm in a team of several people. One person from the team I am in went sideways when I started and is now doing a different job, no more senior than me. Sometimes this colleague comes to cover on our team if we are short staffed or need extra staff for any reason.
The problem is that bossy colleague is just so....bossy!! When I first started and was training, if they were over in our team they would literally watch over me typing every single digit on the computer and literally correct me on everything, even when I was doing things properly but slower than does it (because I was training!) In front of customers this was quite patronising and embarrassing and they would be very 'eye rolly' to customers and make out I was thick. They are also very bossy to everyone else, it's not just isolated to me.
Colleague is also bossy when not working in our team; for example yesterday I was dealing with some customers and the colleague walked over and gave me a list of things to do 'now' even though they were things they could easily have done themselves, and they are not senior to me anyway so are not meant to dish out orders to me or to others. I politely said 'I'm just dealing with Mr and Mrs X' and colleague stormed off, then I just didn't do the things they had ordered me to do. I'm not the 'new girl' any longer and I'm getting sick of it!
There is no point in speaking to our line manager because, although they are lovely and a very decent person, I think they are quite intimidated by colleague and probably do as the colleague tells them to!
Any suggestions? I was thinking of just not doing the things they have asked me to do, as per yesterday. I don't think any confrontation would go down well as they are a dramatic person and very dominant and to be honest I don't fancy any drama in a newish job!
