To think a UTI is the worst kind of pain EVER?

Ive always suffered with bad UTIs, always at really inconvenient times too! I feel that all too familiar nip while going to the loo and just hope it isn’t too late, but 9 times out of 10, it already is 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been so busy running around after our baby today that I haven’t drank any water at all, low and behold, UTI incoming 😩 I don’t even think it’s the physical pain, more just the sheer discomfort that comes with it, you can’t get away from it. I would honestly rather have another c-section and it’s recovery than have another day of uti pain!

My doctor’s surgery is a nightmare to get into/get a hold of so you’ve got little to no chance of getting antibiotics when it starts. The cranberry sachets you make into that drink are almost worse than the UTI itself, actually gives me shivers thinking about them.

I got one so bad on holiday with friends and their husbands once that I just sat pathetically crying in the room for the last two days of the holiday, unable to move more than a few metres from the toilet in case I needed to pee for the 47286th time that hour. Have my friend’s hen weekend from tomorrow and of course, here it comes 🙄 Currently downing one glass of water after another, praying those little bacteria won’t get their claws into my bladder walls (if that’s even what’s happening) 🤣 Just posting for sympathy and shared hatred of UTIs really!

Totally agree! Would rather have a broken arm.
Feel for you.

FriedTomatoe · 04/05/2022 22:58

Yes, yes, yes. So painful and unpleasant. Complete sympathy. I've found since being back on the contraceptive pill it's got better though. Worth trying?

Derbee · 04/05/2022 23:00

A lot of pharmacies can test for and medicate UTIs. Saves having to go to the GP. Depending on where you are?

Tinkerblonde1 · 04/05/2022 23:04

I actually take antibiotics on holiday with me now as I actually fear getting them.

Phrenologistsfinger · 04/05/2022 23:05

Never had one so couldn’t say!

But I think bad tooth pain, especially wisdom teeth is the worst kind of pain ever. It’s in your head, messes with your ears etc!

AngeloMysterioso · 04/05/2022 23:06

The worst UTI I’ve ever had (went from completely fine to peeing blood in just a couple of hours) was nothing in comparison to the worst tooth pain I’ve ever had. It felt like the entire side of my face was caving in.

So speaking solely from my own experience, YABU. But you have my sympathy nonetheless, they are fucking awful.

OP YANBU. Larger Boots stores will do you antibiotics for around £25. Feel better soon, it’s so miserable Flowers

Blossomtoes · 04/05/2022 23:10

You’ve obviously never had gallstones. The pain’s worse than childbirth.

whatnumber · 04/05/2022 23:11

They are awful and to be taken very seriously!
I had one that I didn't treat early enough which turned into kidney infection and I passed out with the pain.
I want to suggest doing lots of research of why and how to stop them but I am sure you already have.
I feel it's not widely enough know but you are meant to wee after sex to help prevent them. Just something I always remember!

DPotter · 04/05/2022 23:12

I see your UTI pain, and raise you cholecystitis and a slipped disc (not at the same time fortunately).

Hope you're feeling better soon

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 04/05/2022 23:13

Can you get the antibiotics online? Lloyd's certainly used to do a course of Macrobid for £25 or so.

Luckyelephant1 · 04/05/2022 23:14

I agree, it's the absolute worst and like you say it's not exactly severe pain, but such a horrible discomfort.

Other than antibiotics the biggest thing that quickly makes a difference for me if I feel one coming on is to down lots of WARM water. I don't know the science or whatever but genuinely it helps so much more than cold water, I feel it gets to my bladder more quickly and soothes the pain of peeing more effectively. That and ibuprofen, NOT paracetamol!

Lansonmaid · 04/05/2022 23:15

UTIs are vile but having just got over acute pancreatitis I can say that it's the second worst pain I've ever experienced (the worst was when I caught my caesarean wound drain tube on the bed and accidentally tugged it when I got up to feed my newborn daughter......).

secretfreckle · 04/05/2022 23:16
  1. D-Mannose tablets. I can mostly head off an infection with these
  2. Superdrug online. You can buy antibiotics and get them the next day if you can't get in at doctor's. Does cost £25 though...
Caiti19 · 04/05/2022 23:18

I've had one bad one in my life. Really bad. The day before flying abroad. What worked within 30 minutes for me was a small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (with "the mother") in it. It's vile but I downed it in one. I still remember that sweet relief more than 10 years later.

Tremaine · 04/05/2022 23:18

Poor you- it's really grim. Having been through the same, I keep some Trimethoprim at home now. Can get it from lots of pharmacies- I've used these prescibers before. www.doctorfox.co.uk/cystitis/
Hope you've managed to catch it early this time

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 04/05/2022 23:20

Worst one I had I was in agony. It felt like it was in my kidneys. I went to a pharmacy and they told me to go to gp immediately and asked to be triaged. It was like 5pm and gp saw me within the hour. GP took urine sample and wanted to admit me to hospital. He said if I didn't have someone at home with me looking after me like dh he would have sent me hospital. It was 20th December and I was no way going hospital. He gave me strong antibiotics and rang me himself on Xmas Eve to make sure I was ok 😂

MarmiteCoriander · 04/05/2022 23:20

I've had UTI's in the past, which are awful OP- I don't deny the pain. The most painful for me though was a perforated ear drum! I was scuba diving and broke to ear drum from the pressure. Not only did it constantly leak, a cold, thick fluid, and cause dizziness, it was by far more painful and annoying than the multiple UTIs and thrush infections I've had over the years.

Took · 04/05/2022 23:28

I get very frequent UTI's and never get a bit of pain! Which is great but also bad because it's not great for them to get left untreated. I sympathise anyway as the other symptoms are awful and to have them in top of terrible pain sounds like hell!

My GP is great and I phone up and say I think I have a UTI and she leaves a prescription for me at reception and I hand in a sample when I pick it up. Is there anyway for you to speak to your GP and arrange something like this?

Galwayg · 04/05/2022 23:28

Tinkerblonde1 · 04/05/2022 23:04

I actually take antibiotics on holiday with me now as I actually fear getting them.

Yes! 👏🏼 After that experience I definitely would. You can get the antibiotics online, I looked into it during the night while pathetically sitting in the shower on THAT holiday 🤣 Ended up having to pee in a cup and communicate through actions only to get antibiotics at the doctors on holiday 🙈

Galwayg · 04/05/2022 23:31

@MarmiteCoriander ouch! That does sound painful 🙈

Phyllis321 · 04/05/2022 23:32

YANBU. Apart from a door crushing my hand, a UTI I had was absolutely the worst pain. Felt like I was pissing hot battery acid mixed with razor blades. I went to the doctors but was in such pain I couldn't sit still so I had to leave!

2pinkginsplease · 04/05/2022 23:32

UTI’s are painful and annoying however after suffering from severe facial pain for 4 days due to sinusitis,I can confirm that was the worst pain I’ve experienced, I had to hold my face to calm the pain and hold a hot water bottle to it to get any relief! Horrendous,

Galwayg · 04/05/2022 23:33

@Tremaine I’ve got off lightly for a few years there, maybe I’ve just learned all the steps not to end up with one and been more careful about it (clearly not today 🙄) but definitely having it at home would be so handy and for going away places! The feeling is going slightly so I’m praying ive drowned it out.. onto glass number 6 😂
