Is it unsociable to use a chain saw at this time of night?

Usually not the moaning neighbour type, in fact the total opposite and pretty chilled.

the bloke directly behind us has been use a chainsaw for ages this evening and still going with it. It's so bloody loud. My son is autistic and it's really triggering him as he lies in bed being able to hear that only. I don't expect people to minimise noise just for him of course but there are also other children around including a baby right next to their house closer than our house. Plus lots of other kids on the street, it is a school night too. I know the bloke works during the day and probably has little time to do it otherwise but it's just annoying me. Even with the windows shut it's vibrating.

probably be told I'm being unreasonable but we are all knackered and can't hear ourselves think

the same neighbours have what seems like a very bright flood light in their garden and switch it on late at night when they have a cigarette and even with blinds and curtains it shines though and scares the living crap out of me every time 🤯

we generally get on well with them too so don't want any hard feelings!

I think its very inconsiderate. If he was still at it at 9pm I'd be going round....

YANBU but if it's a one-off I'd be wondering if there was a problem which is causing him to need to do this now. Perhaps you could use that as a conversation starter if you want to approach him about it?

We've had to do some noisy garden work recently but we wouldn't do it before 10am or after 7pm ish as we don't want to completely annoy our neighbours.
Your neighbour probably doesn't realise how disruptive it is, if you get on well, maybe mention it to him.

Yes , that’s rude and inconsiderate. Chainsaws make a horrific noise that goes straight through you . I’m my opinion it is a 9-5 tool , not for the evenings or Sundays .

Daffodilsdance · 04/05/2022 20:44

Posted to soon . Mention the light . I live in a detached house with a long drive and had no idea that over the road was disturbed when cats and things set off our security light .
I was so glad that they mentioned it and felt really bad . I changed the angle of the light as easy as could be .

The chainsaw does appear to be a one off I think, but he often cuts the grass and strims during the summer at about 8.30-9pm but the noise isn't as bad so I don't mind that, as much!

I am usually the last one to moan at my neighbours but Im tired and stressed this evening 😅

I've honestly been waiting for someone to post on the community Facebook group about it (I wouldn't do this!) but Can't imagine it's just my kids struggling to get to sleep!

YANBU this would drive me mad but I'd leave it if it's a one off.
