To think people have gone batshit crazy in relationships!

I just hate this whole idea that toxic relationships are trendy or funny. I always see memes or tiktoks about “starting arguments in relationships” and generally being toxic.
I also have so many friends (I’m 26) who always talk about their behaviours in relationships. Starting arguments when they’re bored, arguing with their partners via text when they’re out without them to get their attention, being manipulative etc. I think social media romanticises toxic relationships too.

Anyone else agree?

Social media has a lot to answer for full stop, the dramas over trivial things on online, so pathetic.

Is this a young woman thing? Sound awful. Some sort of constant need for attention?

PurpleDaisies · 04/05/2022 17:09

I don’t know anyone like this.

You need to follow this account on Instagram and share her posts with your friends:

This makes me thank the Heavenly Lord that I'm single!

DinoRock · 04/05/2022 17:25

I have not seen this. Sounds horrendous.

WoodenClock · 04/05/2022 17:38

You need different friends online and IRL. I don't see or hear any of this.

bloodywhitecat · 04/05/2022 17:42

Makes me glad to be older as I don't know a single person who does that. It's madness.

DorritLittle · 04/05/2022 17:47

I don't know anyone who does this. My relationships at 26 were not remotely healthy though. Is age the key here?

Blue4YOU · 04/05/2022 17:48

Never heard of this. What fresh hell?

Same, but then my DC are 30, 23 and 19 and I still don't know anyone who does this.

Not just social media but media in general. Think about soaps; healthy long term relationships are boring. People want scandal, excitement, violence etc.

I only have 2 friends who are into social media, always on tiktok etc. Both have always craved attention and can never seem to just settle down. One was crying after a few too many drinks last week because "she wanted to be the main character". I love them both but they do have unrealistic expectations of how life should be.

It's not just relationships. Toxic and personality disordered behaviours have been normalised in general. I genuinely think it's down to the popularity of reality TV, where the higher the drama and conflict, the better. Also social media and the high drama often playing out on there. Youngsters see that and subconsciously absorb the idea that's how people behave generally. I don't think it's going to get better any time soon either.

You've immediately lost credibility on this thread by paying any credence to cesspits like TikTok

Just come off it, eliminate the detritus from your life and you'll never have to give a second's more headspace to numbskulls on there.

I think you have it spot on.
