To think threads should not be deleted

Just because they are getting a bit heated? Some topics are very emotive and people have strong feelings and personal experience and robust exchanges of views are to be expected. Just my opinion.

Agreed. Not to mention how you get invested in a thread, come back and boom gone. SO frustrating 😩

araiwa · 04/05/2022 12:38

I'm asking for this thread to be deleted because ive made an arse of nyself to protect my privacy

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2022 12:39

Depends what they are about. if it's a goady troll out to start a bunfight then they absolutely should be deleted.

AlternativePerspective · 04/05/2022 12:41

There’s a difference between robust debate and being outright offensive.

And being invested in a thread is a whole other discussion. Fact is that a lot of threads turn out to be fake, more than aren’t IMO, and there are people who are vulnerable who might share out of their personal experience which it really would be better for them if they’re not drawn in.

Perfumelover18 · 04/05/2022 12:41

Some threads, such as racist or blatantly sexist posts, should be removed, and sometimes people realize that they have given away too much information and ask for a post to be removed, but just for heated arguments, I think they ought to remain.

The only safe threads now are on Style and Beauty. It's getting ridiculous.

but there’s a difference between heated discussions and outright offence.

If it’s the thread I think it is, that thread started out as offensive and then spilled over, because people started trading personal insults on both sides and there was no coming back from it IMO. I did report it because I felt the OP was incredibly offensive, and MN HQ did reply saying that they were hoping to preserve the thread because some of the discussion was valid, but there comes a point where so many posts need. To be deleted that a thread really can’t stand. So a. Line has to be drawn at some point.
