Hi guys,

Short and sweet so here we go. I was supposed to get married in 2020 but because of covid it was postponed. Finally, my partner and I have set a new date in 2023, just a small wedding as we can't afford much. This has been booked for about 2 months. My family were all told straight away to save the date and invites would follow.

I've just found out that my cousin, who was invited, has booked their wedding for 5 days before mine. Am I right to be absolutely livid and gutted?

If our family is invited to theirs as well, because of cost our family would have to choose which wedding to go too.

I'm devastated but don't want to come across as being silly as I never really speak up about anything 😭😭😭 can't believe it.

I get being upset, but it's possible that was the only date they could do for some reason?

I can't imagine your bit of the family would choose her wedding over yours, as it was booked first and they're closer to you? So she'll be the one who'll miss out, I'd have guessed?

Unless you mean hers was booked first as you only booked recently and she didn't say when you invited everyone, in which case that's a bit mean of her :(

I don't really see what the problem is. They are five days apart, not the same day, unless they are in different countries.

Honestly- just go with it. Or marry sooner and don't worry about a big do (which I admit would be my oresference).

Realistically it would still cost people the same if it was 5 days, 5 weeks or 5 months apart. Will it really prevent people from attending?

Hippopotas · 03/05/2022 22:14

I don’t see the problem. They aren’t the same day and I can’t see why it would stop people going.

You may have only just found out, but do you know when she booked?

She might be the one who is wondering why on earth you chose within a week of her booking
